REDWOOD CITY, Calif. -- Scott Peterson appeared to cry in court Wednesday during testimony from one of his Modesto friends about the pair looking at camouflage-patterned children's clothing in a catalog in the weeks before his pregnant wife Laci disappeared.
Greg Reed testified that he and Peterson looked at a catalog that included the children's clothing sometime before Dec. 24, 2002, the day Laci Peterson was reported missing.
During that portion of Reed's testimony, Peterson wiped his eyes and face with a hankerchief and several members of the courtroom audience sitting behind him and to his right say they saw a tear roll down his cheek.........----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friend's testimony moves Scott Peterson to tears
Peterson described as being 'frantic' upon learning his wife, Laci, was missing
By Jason Dearen, STAFF WRITER
REDWOOD CITY -- Scott Peterson wept quietly Wednesday as one of his close friends testified about how they once flipped through the children's clothing section of a hunting-and-fishing catalogue, recalling how excited Peterson was about buying a camouflage outfit for his future son.
In 2002 Gregory Reed and Peterson seemed to lead parallel lives. Both were fathers-to-be, both had joined the Modesto Rotary Club and both belonged to the $23,000-per-member Del Rio Country Club.
Their wives had become close, often getting together to discuss their pregnancies. Scott and Laci Peterson even attended Lamaze classes hosted by Reed and his wife, Kristen.
As Reed slowly and deliberately testified in Peterson's double-murder trial about what once seemed a normal, seemingly happy life and friendship, the two men looked at each other with clear emotion. Wednesday's tears marked the first time in the 11-week-old trial that Peterson cried in the courtroom.
Reed said he received two phone calls from Peterson on the day Laci went missing. The first was a brief chat the two had as Peterson drove back from the Berkeley Marina. That was about 2:40 p.m., and Reed had called to congratulate Peterson on his new membership in the country club.
Prosecutors have characterized Peterson's actions in the days and weeks after his wife went missing as distant, unemotional and callous. But Reed described a man who sounded "frantic" upon learning his wife was missing.
In the next call on Dec. 24, the two did not talk. Peterson left a message on Reed's voicemail at 5:30 p.m. after he returned from the Bay.
"The message was, 'Have you or Kristen .........

SPECIAL TO THE NEWS
REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - The Internet was Scott Peterson's best friend.
It's where he turned to buy his girlfriend a romantic Christmas gift, where he went to sell a diamond watch his pregnant wife, Laci Peterson, apparently inherited from her grandmother and even where he researched spots to dump her body, an investigator testified yesterday.
Now the Web may prove a fatal trap for Peterson, who could face the death penalty if he's convicted of killing his wife and unborn son.
Offering a detailed reconstruction of Peterson's cyberhabits in the days before he reported his wife missing on Dec. 24, 2002, prosecutors used data gleaned from five of his computers to portray him as a man refining his marital murder plot while pursuing the new object of his affections, massage therapist Amber Frey.
On Dec. 8, 2002, Peterson researched several bodies of water in northern California, looking up maps, currents, boat launch spots and information on fish and fishing licenses, said Lydell Wall, a computer expert with the Stanislaus County sheriff's office.
The next day, he secretly bought a 14-foot fishing boat with cash, according to earlier testimony.
Prosecutors contend the Web searches ........

Witness boosts theory on when woman died

Mercury News
On the day his wife, Laci, was reported missing, Scott Peterson asked a friend whether he had seen her ``today or yesterday,'' the friend testified Wednesday, boosting support for the prosecution theory that Peterson may have killed his wife the day before he told police she disappeared.
Peterson has maintained that he last saw his eight-months-pregnant wife on the morning of Dec. 24 when he left to go fishing on San Francisco Bay. When he returned that day, he told police, she was gone........

REDWOOD CITY -- Prosecutors Wednesday focused on Scott Peterson's computer activity, trying to show that online queries about boating and San Francisco Bay indicate he planned weeks in advance to murder his pregnant wife. A close friend and outdoorsman also testified that Peterson didn't mention that he had just taken his boat for its maiden voyage when the two spoke by phone on Dec. 24, 2002 -- the day Laci Peterson was reported missing.
Prosecutors contend that Peterson murdered his wife and unborn son that morning or the night before, dumped her body in the bay from a newly purchased boat and crafted a fishing story as cover. Peterson told police his wife was mopping the floor when he left that morning.
The friend, Gregory Reed, testified that Peterson left a "frantic" message on his answering machine Christmas Eve asking if he or his wife had "seen or talked to Laci today or yesterday. I can't find her."
Prosecutors could argue that Peterson hadn't gotten his alibi straight at that point, legal analysts said. Three other witnesses have testified that they heard Peterson say Christmas Eve that he went golfing earlier that day..........

I'll be watching...if at all possible and report but I've seen Beth's report and feel other than the two envelopes and needs testing ...Geragos calls it possibly excupatory..and Jackie's beaming..I doubt anything new will be revealed.!
Approximately a week or maybe TEN DAYS ago, I watched a rerun of some show which featured Peterson. It was late on a Saturday night, I think. It may even have been Rita Cosby.
On that show, they had a few talking heads. Some were outside the courthouse. ONE OF THEM WAS A REPORTER, I THINK HIS NAME IS BOB OR JAMES SMITH... HE IS A KIND OF PORTLY GUY, WITH WHITE HAIR WHICH IS A BIT LONGISH... DOES ANYONE KNOW THAT GUY'S NAME?
That guy said, "I have a tip that there may be an issue about POSSIBLE FRESH WATER IN THE BODIES' TISSUES AND GERAGOS MAY BRING THAT UP." (Not an exact quote.) He said he was going to WATCH VERY CLOSELY FOR THIS.
Well, he apparently was right.
I have a question for all of you: If "Bob" or "James" (or whatever that reporter's name is) had heard about this a week to ten days ago, how can it be "newly discovered" or even NEW in any way?
Conclusion: This is just another HO-HUM piece of end-of-the-week bullsh** by Geragos--nothing to get excited about. I have a strong feeling that I am the last one here to figure this out, but I just wanted to express it anyway!
Hey, here's a thought. Suppose he poured cement powder on her lower body (as per rumors we've heard of cement on lower body), and put her in plastic, and added WATER (that would be FRESH water) and left her lying there so it could set?
Might that not cause some fresh water to get into her tissues?
Or suppose he INJECTED wet cement (which would contain fresh water) into her body? I know that sounds gross, but we have also heard rumors to that effect.
I think this whole fresh water thing is going nowhere.
It almost sounds like whatever this 'new' info is, that it may have come from the prosecution from the wording of the article above.
Now I thought Peterson family was just announcing in the last couple of weeks, that they had run out of $ to pay Geragos. Wonder if this has anything to do with this late in the trial 'revelation'?
I just hope it goes nowhere speedily, rather than dragging on and ticking the jury off. Because Geragos will find a way to make the jury think it's the prosecution's fault, as he has apparently done with other delays.
Yes, that's a good one. I saw that one, with Bill Kurtis!
This was something on Fox, I'm pretty sure.
I think this "new" b.s. Geragos is throwing out is not NEW at all, but was simply timed to give the usual Thursday punch, and also to inconvenience Amber Frey if possible.
I also think that maybe Amber has an August vacation planned, or perhaps other plans, and that they carefully scheduled her testimony so as to not interfere with whatever she might have planned. And I am BETTING that if Geragos knows this, he will do everything possible to cause her plans (if any) to get derailed.
And IMO--judging from prior experience with situations like this--you can make book on the fact that defense shills or their friends or maybe just people sympathetic to Peterson will actually do whatever they can this weekend to rattle Amber. Such things have often been done in court cases before.
Fox is reporting that the Prosecution just learned of the new evidence and have turned it over to "forensics".
BBL..sw
Still wondering if the Peterson defense $ problem has something to do with this, or has some sympathetic idiot given the Petersons a loan to pay Geragos and the rest of the defense crew? Or did they just need xtra $ for defense to hire more investigators?
LOL, we don't see it, because we are not looking at it through Geragos' "fraud-colored glasses".
I think his rather lame theory is going to be that Laci must've somehow been in a lake or a river, or some body of fresh water, see, or perhaps in a stagnant "freshwater" drainage canal that runs (coincidentally) right down by the trailer park where the Renfrows and their tan van live. And, see, those satanic-redneck-gypsy-alquaeda-whatever killers left the poor lady rotting in the stagnant drainage ditch, but, see, when they heard her doofus husband told everyone he was on the Bay that day, they just loaded up the putrid, rotting corpse (sorry--her beautiful soul is all that counts now) and rushed out and dumped it in the Bay.
I mean, c'MONNNNNNNNN, it's just as plain as day that this freshwater is gonna get Scott of the hook, isn't it??
That's right Annie. I'm not making any plans for the trial to be over by Tuesday. IF it were REALLY exculpatory, and it came from the Prosecution, then the Prosecution would have HAD it tested, and CONFIRMED and presented it to the court THEMSELVES.
No, lol, I think some unsympathetic citizens gave them the money to continue on with this brilliant defense! And the aforementioned unsympathetic citizens are the people of Stanislaus County! IOW, I believe those judges granted funds to Scott when Geragos applied for them the other day.
I do not mean to insult the people of Stanislaus County. It's not their fault that public money is now being used in Scott's defense.
God Almighty, the fresh water in the tissues bit is OLD news. We heard that before and there was a very reasonable forensic explanation.
I too don't see how fresh water can CLEAR Snott. Laci's body was in San Fran Bay for nearly 4 months. It was in the Bay in the exact area he had his boat. Her scent ended at the end of a pier.
added...just let me know when you want off it.... ;o)
see ya....
I think the money problem does have some relevance. The Defense CANNOT afford any more Experts and they need them. I will be ready for the trial to go ahead on Tuesday.
Give it time, but wonder what the discovery evidence turned over today demanded Geragos to get a hold on the trial for testing the exculpatory evidence until at least Tuesday next week?
"But Geragos has the Judge possibly believing that the new discovery evidence could benefit Scott?
I agree, I think Geragos is looking for some kind of extended time factors here. 100 witness and winding down to then, next let the defense put their best shot on... Hummmmm....
LOL......
