SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The same organization that spurred the recall of former Gov. Gray Davis has now set its sights on creating a part-time Legislature in California.
Ted Costa and the group "People's Advocate" gathered on the west steps of the state Capitol Wednesday morning to announce the start of a statewide signature drive.
Costa says removing Davis was a big step, but more reform is needed in California. He says the Legislature is angering Californians by failing to resolve the state's budget mess.
The Sacramento Area Conservative Townhall Chapter (Sactownhall), by unanimous vote of the membership last night, voted to support the Costa filing today. The group will take their action to chapters throughout California. The move is to repeal the constitutional amendment that created a full time legislature in the State of California. Four representatives of our organization were hand at 10 a.m. press conference at the State Capitol. Following Costa's lead, the spokesman for Sactown described the unified front as part of a three legged stool that began with term limits, follows with redistricting reform on the November ballot and the Citizen Legislature Act to follow at a special election when signatures goals are reached. "Face it, we couldn't ask for better timing" says Dave Jenest of Sactownhall. "Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has eluded to the very same thing after embracing the 2,500-page California Performance Review that recommends a top-to-bottom overhaul of state government. I see the Sacramento Bee quotes the Governor as saying 'Sometimes, a surgeon has to cut in order to save the patient': and We the People are that patient" concluded Jenest.
The Peoples Advocate website offers two clear reason for what is considered a bipartisan effort. First two quotes:
"Because no matter what happens there will be Democrat majorities in the Assembly and in the Senate and even if the governor was elected God, he couldn't change that." Democratic Senate President Pro Tem John Burton
"In gerrymandered election districts, the voters don't choose their politicians - the politicians choose their voters!" The proof: http://www.fairdistricts.com/capper.asp or just click on the thumbnail image.

Your profile page says you are new to all this. I say boloney. How you doing Dave, or should I say Comwatch? How many handles do you have now?
Normally, I would call this a grammatical error (eluded instead of alluded), but in the case of Arnold...
I agree. Fat chance the existing State Legislature will ever enact the reforms. They know who their political friends and patrons are and will not doing anything to jeopardize their political careers by putting an end to the influence of the special interests who got them to Sacramento. Yep, its time to clean house!
Dave's ok. Kind of a nut but he is a dedicated activist, I'll give him that. I'm surprised he posted here. Thought he had given up on FR. I think he is trying to rub someones nose in it so to speak.
Looks like quite a few folks are hankering for a big serving of 'Rat stew with a beer or wine chaser. ;-)
Who said that? That's a pretty danged good and strong statement!!!
amazing!
Ah, but Arnold always has the option of taking his proposals to the people via inititive, and he has shown he is not afraid to use it.
