One thing about Keyes running that would be interesting, is to watch to see if he expands his repertoire, you know beyond stating in six different ways that abortion violates the Declaration of Independence. Sorry, but I call them as I see them.

For the record, I've never stated here or elsewhere anything negative about Hilliary picking NY to run in. I bashed the people there for electing her, but IMO, the "carpetbagger" rubric is a century out of date.

Well, I feel like I'm in a tough spot. I don't want to derail the campaign, and as I've been saying, my problem isn't really with the man himself. But I don't like the precedent, and I don't like what the state party has become, and I don't feel that just smiling and pretending this is wonderful is the right thing to do. How else will the party get the message that I want them to do a better job unless I and the others like me find a way to make our displeasure known. The Democrats love guys like you.
You're playing by the Queensbury rules, while they're burying their foot in your groin.
I tire of the gentlemanly Republican.

Obama is a state Senator and has lived in Ill. for years and years.
He was "hand picked" TO SPEAK AT THE DEMS' CONVENTION,NOT TO RUN!
You live in California. Were you one of those, who during the Governors race, lambasted those from out of state, who were saying that Arnold should be the one to win?
It's really sad to see people here, who don't know what they're talking about, railing against those who do. tsk,tsk,tsk...........................
Do yourself a favor and learn the facts, before you spout off;especially about things you do not know anything at all about.
I stated facts, not feelings. You don't like what I said,so get all emotional and put words in my mouth.Pity that.
To: Jorge
Even Republicans I know admit Obama gave a great speech at the convention and is a rising star in politics. Keyes has very little charisma or appeal to voters. He will lose. You sound like you will be dissappointed if Obama loses.

Wrong. If it is legal, we had better be willing to do what it takes. Dont bring a knife to a gunfight.

To help Jack Ryan? IThe national party made it clear Illinois was a write off well before the primary, which is why there were so many self-funded candidates in the race. They reiterated that fact when Ryan embarrassed us all, and the state party had to find a replacement. If they had been prepared to put money in the state we would now be several weeks into the campaign with a home-grown replacement.

> Keyes doesn't have a chance against Obama.
How does IL politics work? If it's like every other state I've studied, there's one big liberal metro area and then the rest of the state.
Obama will write off everything outside of Chicago. Keys will charge into Chicago and take the fight to him on his turf.
Will the "rest of the state" turn out to vote for him?
Will he peel enough votes outta Chicagoland to help?
This "him getting stomped" seems perhaps a bit premature...

As you know I prefer a Democrat Senate and House anyway, but still want President Bush in the White House Would you care to expound on that statement a little bit. Perhaps explain your reasoning?
To: WillRain
I'm not saying you are wrong to suggest that if Keyes pours out strong medicine that the sheeple will choke on it, but don't we wish it were not so? No. Keyes has no sense of decorum when he rains hellfire down on his audience. There's a way to do it, where you don't piss off the very people you're trying to attract. There is simply not a tactful bone in Alan's body.
He's not an optimistic man, and it comes through, loud and clear.

I remember back in the 2000 campaign, when rumors circulated that Cheney would "pick himself" for VEEP. He denied he was in consideration, yet ended up being the nominee.
The point is, in politics, you never know what the future will bring. A person could make an honest statement about their future in politics, and, lo and behold, do the opposite. So what? It's not unprincipled. It's politics.

Does abortion violate the Declaration of Indendence?
How about that thing in the Bill of Rights about no person being deprived of life or property without due process?
Hello, by the way.

Yes, Keyes will definitely boost the dispirited conservatives of Illinois. It's an extra 150,000 votes for Bush in Illinois---at a minimum. And I wouldn't be shocked to see Keyes pull 25% of the African-American vote. He's much more in tune with their positions on social issues.
