The problem is that for some Keyes will be a laughing stock..

How? Keyes is brilliant --- and he's an excellent speaker and debater.

He doesn't even live here. He's never lived here. Why would any Illinois citizen vote for him?

That didn't seem to bother the lefties here in NY.

but it seems this just about locks up the state for Kerry. anyone disagree??

Totally disagree. this may very well bring the state into Bush's camp. Alan will energize a demoralized IL Rep. Party and bring many christian conservatives back out to vote where they have been dormant in recent years.

Big win for Alan, possible win for Bush.

There is just something that really gets to me when I get the feeling that people have been raised to run and/or they have wanted to be president all their lives.

It's just not right.

Alan commits things like this to prayer.

I watched him pray his way through the debates in '00. When the camera wasn't on him, that's what he was doing.

Obviously the national party disagrees with you, otherwise they would have committed serious money to Illinois and we wouldn't be in this mess.

To help Jack Ryan? I think they smelled his dirty laundry coming. He knew well in advance of the nomination what was in his divorce records, and he knew they would be made public. Early reports before the nomination about his records had to make the National GOP a little wary. He should have "come clean" from the start, and that would have eased a lot of minds.

"I hate to burst everyone's bubble, but we were all against America's "favorite carpetbagger" up in New York not that long ago...As much as I respect and like Dr. Keyes, I don't think this will work."

You ARE ready for the inevitable, aren't you?

Don't you just love the hypocrisy?

Things like this are wrong when THEY do it, but perfectly fine when we do it.

It may be that the American voter is so self absorbed that they can't stand a bracing dose of truth, but as one who sits and listens to my pastor preach two sermons a week, I've learned to appreciate a man telling me straight where I need to change my views or my ways.

Why is it that we, as a nation, insists on candidates who spoon-feed us pablum and promise us lollipops instead of being straight with us?

I'm not saying you are wrong to suggest that if Keyes pours out strong medicine that the sheeple will choke on it, but don't we wish it were not so?

Somebody please explain how Alan Keyes gets to run for the Senate from Illinois when he lives somewhere around D.C.????

Carpetbagging is a tradition revived by the Kennedys. - Tom

Soon after President Kennedy's death, Robert Kennedy resigned as Attorney General and, in 1964, ran successfully for the United States Senate from New York. His opponent, incumbent Republican Senator Kenneth Keating, labeled Kennedy a "carpetbagger" during the closely contested campaign.

So where's your source for the quote, for the second time?

I heard it on ABC 7 earlier today, and then called their newsdesk to make sure I had it right. I haven't found it on the web. But given his followup statements today, I have no reason to believe it's inaccurate.

Keyes won't win over any blacks in Ill. and WILL turn off some white Republicans/Conservatives.

Why wouldn't Keyes in over the socially Conservative blacks -- blacks who are pro-life? Catholic or Christian blacks? And why would Keyes turn off any white Conservatives? They certainly wouldn't vote for Obama --- a pro-abortion liberal.

Yes, Obama is from Hawaii. Spent a lot of time in New York, too. His birthday is today, too.

This election is about purging the left-wing radicals from the RAT party.

From your lips......and all that.

I am fearful if Kerry and Edwards do win, we won't get another chance until 2020.

But, of course, if WE don't get another chance until 2020, then neither does Hillary; I wonder if she's willing to wait.

That's one of the things I like about GWB and Reagan. They came to politics late. Oddly enough GHWHB-41 was always working on the presidential resume since birth. At least in my humble opinion.
