Howlin, this has nothing to do with Keyes moving to Illinois anymore than all the liberals' attacks on President Bush. You're attacking Alan Keyes because he made the mistake of getting up this morning, flying to Illinois and being chosen by the State Republican Party. The only way Alan Keyes could stop being criticized by you is if he ceased to exist. Well, I will not defend what everyone has said, I stand by what I said. I put his quote in context which is not something you or anyone else did.
And I would say that no matter what you would rail on Keyes because you're a Keyes-hater, and just like Bush-hater, irrational hatred drives you to stay up all night attacking the object of your contempt.

There is no shame in being wrong from time to time. No one expects you to be perfect, and no one expects you to see eye to eye with us in every situation. What we generally DO expect, from the people we elect and are asked constantly to support, is for the people who claim to be the standard bearer of a party that is based on certain things to actually stand up for those things.
That requirement is completely separate from YOU, Howlin, as a person. It is an honest debate about how to best utilize our energies and resources. It doesn't have to be any more complicated than that.

I haven't seen one single person on this thread cheerleading for Obama. Could you please point me to an example of it? All I've seen is people acknowledging the political climate in Illinois, and Obama's talent and popularity.

If Keyes accepts this nomination, it will appear that his principles aren't quite as bedrock as he & others would have us believe. Personally I was opposed to carpetbagging when Hillary did it, and I think it would be hypocritical to support it now.
I agree that Obama needs opposition, it's just hard to believe there was no one credible in the entire state.
That said, it's going to be an interesting race...I'm looking forward to watching!
