Perlstein was just on FR this afternoon defending his 'Americanism'.

The man has no shame.

"bla, bla, bla... because no one can be trusted to be fundamentally decent, which was why the Constitution established a government of laws, not personalities."

"If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary . . . "

Conservatives see something angelic in George Bush. That's why they excuse, repress, and rationalize away so much.

And that is why conservatism is verging on becoming an un-American creed.

I asked in the discussion this afternoon if Perlstein was in favor of inforcing the law agains Mr. Kerry for conspiracy to assasinate United States Senators. I got no reply.

Excerpt: "Senator Kerry of Massachusetts yesterday retreated from his earlier steadfast denials that he attended a meeting of Vietnam Veterans Against the War at which a plan to assassinate U.S. Senators was debated.

The reversal came as new evidence, including reports from FBI informants, emerged that contradicted Mr. Kerry’s previous statements about the gathering, which was held in Kansas City, Mo. in November 1971.

Kerry Knew!

Newsmax

Excerpt: "A few weeks later, Bogdan Dzakovic - former FAA chief of the national airport-security covert Red Team (which conducted special ops in aviation-security matters) - was asked to hand-deliver a videotape to Jamie Wise, a staff person in Kerry's office. He told Wise that the film depicted the ease with which undercover operatives had successfully broken through Logan's security shields with potentially deadly weapons. Not once but 10 times!"

Worldnetdaily

Excerpt: "WASHINGTON - A third federal aviation-security agent, one still with the government, has stepped forward to say he also warned Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry about security lapses at Boston's Logan International Airport before the 9-11 hijackings there.

More!

Excerpt: Jon Leiberman, the Washington bureau chief of Sinclair NewsCentral, reported that on May 7, retired Federal Aviation Administration agent Brian Sullivan wrote Mr. Kerry, Massachusetts Democrat, a letter saying the report was just 'the tip of the iceberg' in security problems at the senator's hometown airport.

Mr. Sullivan's letter read in part: 'with the concept of Jihad, do you think it would be difficult for a determined terrorist to get on a plane and destroy himself and all other passengers? ... think what the result would be of a coordinated attack which took down several domestic flights on the same day. The problem is that with our current screening system, this is more than possible. Given time, considering current threats, it is almost likely.'

The two planes that crashed into the World Trade Center on September 11 both took off from Logan Airport, reported the Washington Times.

"...what he thinks of the Federalists' most famous message: that the genius of the Constitution they were defending was that you needn't base your faith in the country on the fundamental decency of an individual, because no one can be trusted to be fundamentally decent, which was why the Constitution established a government of laws, not personalities."

I'd like to see where Perlstein was during the Clinton administration when, for the typical Village Voice reader, the cult of personality reigned supreme.

Plus, I hate it when liberals prattle on about a constitution they only care about when it lets them trash religion or get an abortion.

Sorry I missed the excitement. We've spoken before, as you may recall. This one is really pretty silly, you know - I'm thinking your microscope may need a slightly cleaner objective lens. When your instrument is that dirty all you see is what's on it, and not what you're supposed to be looking at. Which would be us. So, tell me again what it is you think you're seeing...is it truth or is it residue?

I have come to the conclusion that individuals like Rick Perlstein will forever attack others in a vain attempt to keep from having to take a painful look in the mirror at themselves.

If you stop and think about your past for a minute, you will probably be able to remember one of the Rick's of the world -- the guy or girl who wouldn't participate in anything because it was "stupid" and "only idiots would want to do that".

Unlike most, who, while afraid, took the necessary risks to participate, the Ricks could never assimilate and join in with normal folks, could never take a joke, and were always on the fringes, or on the outside looking in, as people joked, laughed, made fools of them selves, got over it and moved on with their lives.

No matter how many peace offerings, or helping hands were offered, the Ricks couldn't accept them, because they were frozen into self-dislike, masked by their dislike of the "morons" they saw all around them.

As time passed, the Ricks become more and more bitter, convincing themselves that the world isn't "fair" (which, of course is a silly premise, but makes for good ground cover to hide under, and keeps the self-examinations at bay), and dreaming of some utopia that would just come about if only those "morons" would stop persecuting the victims like Rick.

Some of them, like Rick, found that they could use the power of the pen effectively to attack, and in doing so, garnered praise from others with the same paranoia as Rick's. They found that if they moved to somewhere where the self-proclaimed victims congregated (San Francisco, New York) they could feel that finally they were with the "in" crowd. And while professing their individuality, all of them could write interchangeable articles which fed the group's paranoia towards the "morons".

They got paid for writing attack articles, ran with the "in" crowd, and cackled at the poor slobs who were to un-enlightened to realize the value of the Ricks of the world.

Unfortunately, the Ricks failed to realize that they would do to each other exactly what they would do the the "morons" that they hated so much. Of course to remain as part of the "in" crowd and fend of the rest of the world, they have to pretend to really like each other (at least until one of them leaves the room, and then the rest can have an attack-fest on the one who left).

So there they set, day after day, year after year, pretending to be happy, publishing articles which attack the things that normal people consider good, and congratulating each other on their wittiness.

Without doubt, they irritate us with the illogic and viciousness of their attacks. However, it is actually sad to see one of God's creatures spend their whole lives attempting to torment others, just to keep from facing the torment they carry around inside themselves.

They will eventually face death, knowing deep in their hearts that they were never able to connect with anyone else, and that at their wake, their "friends" will snidely provide gushing, but negative, remarks about everything from the quality and color of the casket, to the "stupid" selection of clothes that the "normal" grieving family wore.

So I see Rick as a man with a small and hard heart, who will live his life attacking others in attempt to gain some self-acclaim, and will always be "on the outside looking in", just as he is when he comes to FR. He can participate in the on-line forum known as FR, but will not participate in the "stupid" human interaction which is the lifeblood of FR (and of normal life).

Of course, we must continue to fight the Ricks with all our energy, to ensure that his distorted view of the world never becomes the norm in America, but it is indeed sad to watch one of God's creatures continue to act in such a manner towards his fellow men.

A prayer for God to touch Rick's heart, to ease his self-created torment, and allow him to come into the light, would seem to be in order. I have prayed for him. I hope it is answered.
