Barthwell is a RINO, and Keyes isn't from here. Our state party is so screwed up...

Keyes is a fire-breathing true believer.

He can't beat Obama but the campaign will be a wonder to see.

If they pick Keyes, I'd love seeing him speak at the Republican convention.

Keyes would at least be interesting to watch (even if he didn't win).

His sweaters have personality than Obama

This sux. The main characteristic of the potential candidate is color. The Illinois Republican party is dead inside. Bring on the Republican Lacrosse Team. where's the next match?

Hey, it could be worse. You could be here in NY with Schumer and Clinton. Now that is screwed up...

I voted for Keyes in the Texas primary, 2000. I had yard signs out for him. I generally vote libertarian (as if it matters in Texas), but his position on abortion brought me out to support him with signs and coffees.

That, and I can claim that I supported the only black man running for presidential election in 2000. When the libs get the confused look on their face... I reply: "Dr. Keyes... Ambassador Keyes... You know... the only real conservative running for president....."

It really jacks with their worldview.

In theory. But he'll never win here. And as much as I like Keyes, I can't help it that I don't like the idea of importing a candidate from the East Coast. It's pathetic.

He's too principled to run in a state in which he does not even reside. He's too principled for his sweaters, even.

Sorry, Bad Dog, I disagree; Alan Keyes is one of the greatest of our generation. His supporters don't give a damn what color he is. He's a man of principle that we can trust.

How fitting for Keyes to represent the Land of Lincoln!

A truly intellectual and articulate man whose appreciation for America's Founding principles is unquestionable and deep!

Maybe so. Obviously a guy as vehement as Keyes
wouldn't be considered, certainly by the Illinois
Republican party, if he were white.

But he's still a great messenger. Yes, he'll turn
off some people -- mostly those who would end up
following the media/establishment lead and voting
for Obama anyway. It is important to have some
candidates who present the true conservative message
and make people think. There aren't enough of them.
As a non-Illinoisian, Keyes would probably lose. But
we're going to lose the seat anyway. Let's at least
educate some people while we're at it.
