Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger collected a record-breaking $12 million in campaign contributions in the first six months of this year, a large chunk of which came from a select list of powerful longtime California political donors, according to campaign finance reports filed Monday with the secretary of state's office.
Schwarzenegger amassed contributions in five separate campaign accounts during the first half of the year, including six-figure sums to his California Recovery Team that financed campaigns for his successful bond measure in March and signature-gathering efforts to push for changes in the California workers' compensation system.
He also has raised hundreds of thousands in smaller donations in his 2006 re-election account, which he has used to stage campaign-style events to press for his budget plan and to foot the bill for the hotel suite that he calls home in Sacramento.
During last year's recall campaign against Gray Davis, Schwarzenegger said he didn't need to raise campaign money from outside interests because of his personal wealth. But the Republican governor raised twice the amount between January and June that Davis did during his record-setting first six months in office.
"The governor is raising these funds to accomplish the ambitious reform agenda that the voters elected him on," said Marty Wilson, Schwarzenegger's chief fund-raiser.

Things are turning around finally from "Grey Out" Davis. Mr. Schwarzenegger sure has his hands full. It seems nothing is too big for this man to handle.
I just want to remain positive. I know there are still a heck of a lot of problems here.
Well take off those rose colored glasses because we are in deeper debt today than we were this time last year...
And wishin' won't make it go away! LOL
Someone needs to tell Ahnold that he isn't in Hollyweird and there are no second takes playing the part of governor...
when you sign a budget, you have to pay the tab!
We can start by stopping the importation of poverty, and ending entitlement payments to minorities.
