Today is primary election day in Missouri, Kansas and Michigan.
The biggest high-profile race is in Missouri where Gov Bob Holden (D) is trying to fight off a primary challenge from State Auditor Claire McCaskill. The race is supposed to be too close to call. The winner of the Dem primary will face Sec of State Matt Blunt (R) in November. In CD-3, there's a wide-open primary for Dick Gephardt's seat with Russ Carnahan, the son of Mel & Jean Carnahan, the front-runner in the Dem primary.
In Kansas, the big event is the GOP primary in CD-3 between Adam Taff, Kris Koback and Pat Lightner. Taff is seeking a re-match with Rep Dennis Moore. The continuing feud between moderates and Christian conservatives will continue today as precinct committeeman and woman positions as chosen in the GOP primary.
In Michigan, it's relatively quiet except for the CD-7 GOP primary for the seat of retiring Rep Nick Smith. Another classic conservative vs moderate battle is occurring between Brad Smith (son of Nick) and State Senator Joe Schwarz.
Who's gonna win? Why? Opinions anyone?
Agreed, although I think that the Kobach supporters will stay home rather than vote for Moore. That's been the story of the last three elections - moderates don't support the conservative candidate or vice-versa. The fact that this primary has been an endless round of accusations and name-calling between the two major Republicans, plus the fact that neigher one has said he would support the other, would seem to indicate that Moore has to be favored in November once again.
That's what the KS moderate Repubs do...they vote Dem over a Republican who isn't a liberal.
It is maddening as heck.
Very true and also very unfortunate.
Any Republican would be better than Dennis Moore.
Moore is not a flaming liberal but he's not as moderate as he claims either.
Some might.....I sure hope not.
Moore needs to be gone....I don't care who it is.
But, I am not in that district, so I can't vote for Taff or Kobach unfortunately.
But then again, some conservatives won't vote for the moderate....though they seem to be more party-faithful (but I am one, so I am biased).
Over my dead body...
Let's face it, we have three parties here - Democrat, Conservative Rebublican, and Moderate Republican. Each with their own issues and their own candidates. Moore has managed to stay just moderate enough to attract independents and enough Republicans to whin, while not being too moderate for his Democratic base. You have to give the guy credit, he's playing the district like a violin while the GOP kills itself.
A disgusting choice. Neither of those two deserves my vote.
I'll be voting Walberg.
"It's between Taff and Kobach in Kansas -- I think Kobach pulls it out based on the latest poll I saw:
Taff 38
Kobach 21
Among 274 REGISTERED Republicans July 8-16th. Kobach will be stronger among likely voters and among late-deciding voters who still haven't gone for Taff after three years of seeing him."
"I'm in Michigan's congressional 7th district and will be voting for Clark Bisbee in the primary. While I like Brad Smith he's got a drawback. He's a lawyer, which I'd rather not add to an already overlegislative congress."
Primary Election Bump!
There. I fixed that. ;^)
Guess what district I ended up in. Hehehe...
