Watch out for #2.

#2 is noted - and by the way, 3 and 4 are likely lining up behind the 'Bonnie-wannabe'. Still waiting on updates from the offshort weather buoy. Hatteras seems to be still reporting gusts to 110+ with sustained winds of (at least) 36.

But it sounds like it is gonna follow the coast for a while.

The NWS reports I'm hearing are that the cold front coming down from the Great Lakes area is going to push it out to sea by the time it gets anywhere near NY and the Northeast.

The offshore weather buoy, about 20 miles(?) east of Hatteras is now reporting sustained winds at 46kt (about 50mph) with gusts to about 66mph.

Wave heights are 21.7 ft. with 11 seconds between each peak. Barometer 29.26" and still falling rapidly.

Yeah, it's following a coastline that "points" it straight out to sea to the Northeast. Once it passes Hatteras (imminent), Alex will no longer threaten any land areas.

I guess you need satellite (geos satellite) to get the Water Vapor Channel.

Okay--really dumb question from a California girl-

Will this hurricane make it to Virginia?
My son is there(for the first time) on a business trip.

What will it be like there?

I hope it gets dispersed soon.

Dunno, where's your son? We're in VA Beach, southeastern tip of the state and we're getting some pretty hefty downpours and some localized flooding, but the forecasters don't think (at least now anyway) that we'll get much more than that.

Not a dumb question at all. But all indications are that due to weather approaching from the west, Hurricane Alex will probably skirt the Outer Banks and get pushed out to sea in the direction of the North Atlantic away from the US coast. Depending on where he is, he might see some heavy rain but he should be fine.

The Weather Channel just had shots of Nags Head; water way up in the streets.

Isn't that the pier that had the "Go Hokies" or "Go Mountaineers" (which was it?) sign on the right rail during Isabel?
