After 9/11 there was a massive increase in border security efforts.

LOL Yeah, they added 300 something new guards, promptly removed them to the Canadian border, and now a few are back. As long as the amnesty loving crowd on both sides refuse to do something serious about the problem, we're dead meat. When they're serious they'll apply RICO to any employer, confiscate his property and have him do mandatory jailtime. The jobs for illegals will be gone within 1 day. Legislaters then will cut off the theft of taxpayer pockets by dropping the Anchor babie provisions and all forms of public assistance they now enjoy. They'll deport themselves and the smugglers will be all but out of business. Until they do that, there is zero hope that we will keep out anyone who wants to come in. Zero.

"they'll apply RICO to any employer, confiscate his property and have him do mandatory jailtime. "

Spoken like a true union man. Punish employers.
Employers should not have the burden of law enforcement placed on them. Already they have to collect child support from employees, back taxes, criminal fines, alimony, social security payments; monitor probation rule compliances, perform background criminal checks; ensure licenses compliances ...

Now you want employers to enforce immigrations rules. Immigrants use fake SS cards and other people's IDs. They use fake, borrowed, altered, revoked and expired green cards. They lie about their immigration status. But you want to imprison anyone who hires someone out of status.

Who are you going to imprison in a fortune 500 corporation? The CEO? The vice-pres of human resources? The project manager? The shop supervisor?

What about companies that use subcontractors? Should they be imprisoned if some of the subs' employees are out of status?

And what about companies that buy raw material from companies that have out of status employees? Should Bill Gates be imprisoned because MS buys shipping boxes from a company that buys cardboard stock from a company that buys sawdust from a mill that buys trees from a wholesaler who buys them from a logging company that has some out of status employees?

Why not imprison everyone who buys products from companies that hire out of status employees? Everyone who buys a car made in America. Everyone who buys clothes made in America. Everyone who goes to a hospital. Everyone who drives on public highways.

The amazing thing is that one-fourth of one per cent of the electorate actually voted for Buchanan. Even if half the votes were mistakes, that still leaves a lot of idiots.
