MOSCOW. Aug 2 (Interfax) - The Russian and U.S. navies are planning joint maneuvers in the North Atlantic, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov said at a meeting with President Vladimir Putin on Monday.
"The first stage of talks involving fleet admirals of Russia and the United States has been completed. It is planned to hold these maneuvers in the Norwegian Sea in the middle of September," Ivanov said.

I wonder why? Is it politics for the public, or is there a purpose?...a show of solidarity maybe for China's benefit? Interesting.

I think the message is as likely intended for "Old Europe" (particularly France) as for China.

It would be interesting to see if russian naval MiGs could land on our aircraft carriers. Would the tailhooks be that different ?

I was thinking that the USN probably needed some ASW practice. Been awfully boring since CCCP went DOA.
