..We have to get everyday adults in that population to come to believe that it is just not worth it...'Those Americans are nuts; they level a city every time our guys blow up a train'...

Common Tator recited the example of the Romans, when they first came into the Middle East; their citizens were being kidnapped and beheaded. The Romans responded by sending a legion to the spot of each beheading, seizing the nearest 1000 people and beheading them. Very soon, a Roman could walk down the most dangerous alley in town, at midnight, in perfect safety. Anyone who even looked like they were thinking about beheading a Roman was immediately set upon and killed by his own neighbors...Yes, it will probably come to something like that.

You must keep in mind that we are dealing with people, and I use that term advisedly, who are suicidal. They don't care.

Are we not reaching the point of "The Big Country That Cried wolf"?

It should be fine. We simply have to be very alert and notice anything out of the ordinary and report it ASAP. He works about three blocks from me and may be two blocks from the Board of Trade.

I hope you get to join him, Chicago is great in the summer. Millennium Park with the "Bean" is pretty nifty and well the shopping and restaurants - not a bad place to visit in the summer. :-)

No, this isn't a "Cry Wolf" scenario. The background briefings included details that make it clear to everyone (except Howard Dean, apparently) that this is a serious and near-term threat.

On April 21, 2005, simultaneous suicide missions planned and executed by Osama bin Laden and Al Qaeda cells in the United States, kill 900 people in Washington and New York.

President John F. Kerry's initial and immediate response is:

Choose the statement or statements he is most likely to make.

A: "These attacks are the result of the gross negligence and incompetence of George W. Bush. He left this country in a vulnerable position that Vice President Edwards and I, and the Democratic Party, have not been able to remedy within the short time we've been in office. I ask all Americans to pray that people like George W. Bush are never placed in a position of trust and authority again. He is solely responsible for the death of these people. Their blood is on his hands."

B: "There is only one way to fight these terrorists and therefor I have asked the United Nations to protect us!"

C: "In order to combat these attacks against America, I have asked terrorist leaders from around the world to meet with me here in the White House so that we may better understand their anger and find ways that we can be subservient to their will."

D: "My immediate response to the terror attacks upon our country has been to ask Michael Moore, Jimmy Carter, and Jesse Jackson to meet with Osama bin Laden and offer him our immediate and unconditional surrender."

E: "These attacks would never have occurred had we not been a brutal world power under George W. Bush. You cannot blame "OUR" policies of surrender and submission for these attacks. The responsibility falls squarely on the Republicans and specifically on George W. Bush for failing to protect us."

F: "In response to these attacks, I have asked VP Edwards to seek redress for our losses through the courts and to initiate lawsuits against unnamed conspirators since the most important thing about these attacks is that we get back the monies we will need to rebuild."

My purpose in doing such a thing would not be to affect the terrorists themselves, so much as to change of the mentality of the local population. The problem we have is that there are too many average Joes in those places who will smile at us for the cameras while hiding these clowns in their basements, even from their own governments. We have to get everyday adults in that population to come to believe that it is just not worth it. They may still in their hearts wish that their young men could go smite The Great Satan. And maybe someday, Allah willing, they will. But not now. Not here. Not anymore. Those Americans are nuts; they level a city every time our guys blow up a train. Until we get them thinking like that, this is never gonna stop.

Longer term, we need to root out the Mullahs who are selling them this crap from the time they are toddlers. But there isn't going to be a long run if we start having nukes go off in our cities. It's for their own good that we stop this before it comes to that.

The perfect post, absolutely 100% correct!

Indeed. But then its not just sabre rattling. They attack and we sack 3 countries. Repeat. In short order there'd be no one left to be suicidal........

I'm going to run as a moderate in November....
