Just breaking on CNN
That duct tape sure comes in nice colors. At least we will be able to color coordinate our rooms when we have to tape the doors and windows. :o)
LOL--it has been mentioned about 30 times throughout the thread. However, there are different orange levels for NYC.
Just because the words "international organization" are mentioned in the impending threat, doesnt mean just NYC.
For example, there are all kinds of "international organizations" in D.C., too. IMF, World Bank, OAS, embassies of our allies in the fight, you name it. As for the "financial corporations" that would tend to suggest NYC with so many of the firms there, Wall Street, etc. etc.
No speculation on possible targets, please.

Why speculate? We either get hit or we don't, you are either one of those hit or your not, and those of us left to watch will be heartbroken and mad as hell. And those no longer with us.........can cheer us on from the sidelines.
Agreed, he's been an ally in the WOT. Didn't know much about him before 2000 when he ran with that taller, sort of stiff guy, and didn't get a favorable impression at all, but I sort of like the guy when he speaks about terrorism and the war. On the other hand, I used to sort of like the other guy before he ran with sinkmaster. Folks change, I guess.
I don't agree that our response should be "nothing". I believe we should take into consideration that there is a substantial risk of attack, be alert, report anything suspicious to the proper authorities.
OK, I've now read thru the entire thread and see that I was about the 20th person to bring up the "NYC is already Orange" point. Sorry! :-)
But several people mentioned that NYC is at "low orange" and will move to "high orange". I had no idea there was such a thing. Has anyone else heard of this "low", "high" distinction? Boy, way to make things more confusing. If they're gonna have "low" and "high" distinctions within colors, then it seems to me we need more colors!!! (This whole color code thing is so ridiculous, if you ask me)
("Not that there's anything wrong with that.")
I got mine :)
Well, I don't have Mel (drat!) but I have what he's holding in his hot little hands!
No clue out how you inferred I was dpwnplaying the severity of the situation.
'sawright. You just made an assumption based on the fact that "grace" in in my SN.
NYC is already orange. We've been there since 09.11.
No clue out how you inferred I was dpwnplaying the severity of the situation.

Lower your alert, not what I was implying. Sometimes I am talking to an entire thread and an indiviudual at the same time. Thinking and typing far to fast I am sure. But extremely fearful for my fellow countrymen right now. I can't do anything but my heart is with everyone of them in the high target areas.
I'm not old enough to know what that was like. Can you describe the Civil Defense system as it existed back then? How did it give people a role in their own destiny? Was everyone allowed to carry?
I just know what I see with my own eyes, its nothing "official". for NYC, there are two different sets of behavior under orange, I called them "low" and "high".
If you work at a famous landmark, or even in the immediate vicinity of one, you're pretty much hosed. All you can do is hope that law enforcement and counterterrorism personnel can interdict the terrorists before they strike.
I wouldn't feel particularly safe working at the NYSE between now and the election, but taking a three month vacation isn't an option for most people.
amen brother!
and I will add - its not a waste of time to have these codes. this alert forces more diligence amongst law enforcement people, which is good.
