I read it to mean that each lunch cost $200. That fits in with the "five-star" statement.

Will the press have a field day with this like they did with the alleged "display" turkey Bush held in Iraq?

Hell No!
Since when is the lamestream media interested in reporting truth?

Maybe lunch portions were smaller than regular dinner entries? That was a regular practice at another restaurant next to my former place of work. In the evening- dinner for $30-40 per nose, around noon - lunch for maybe $7.

That is probably much closer to the price for each lunch. However, the article states that "The meals came to about $200. " This use of "meals" in the plural is meant to imply that the total price for all of the meals was $200. This is deliberately deceptive reporting. The reporter is trying to report what happened while not making it look as if Kerry isn't a snob who purchases expensive lunches for himself while trying to give the image that he actually eats at Wendy's.

Nineteen lunches at $200 a pop? I don't think so. What's more likely is that the meals were provided at close to cost. It's good PR.

Elitist Dems never change. The whole Wendys thing struck me as strange from the beginning . . . . . now I know why.

Perhaps it was $200 per PLATE. That would be more like it for the Billionaress and her companion and their friends.

Actually, I think it's far more likely to be careless use of the English language.

If he was trying to cover up for Kerry, why use the terms "five-star lunches" and "gourmet meals," and why list the dishes? For that matter, why publish the story at all?

The entourage had also expected to stop at the Alexis Diner at Route 9W and North Plank Road in the Town of Newburgh. In fact, the Kerry advance team had ordered 125 lunches for the team and supporters. Their buses drove right by the diner on I-84 and proceeded straight to Wendy's.

I hope they paid Alexis Diner in advance for those 125 lunches.

The thought of John and "Teraza" dining with the peasants was laughable. For them slumming would be to drink California wines and to forego the caviar.

Not everyone is going to understand exactly what those words entail as far as price is concerned, because most people don't eat like that. Now once you name a dollar amount, that's what people are going to remember.

Anyone know who the source of this info is? Or is it a reporter who requested anonymity?
