Ten candidates from across the country have been chosen to compete in Showtime Networks' unscripted and unprecedented reality series, AMERICAN CANDIDATE. The series focuses on six men and four women of various ages, backgrounds and political views, including Independents, Democrats, Republicans, Greens and Libertarians. AMERICAN CANDIDATE is hosted by Emmy® Award-winning talk show host Montel Williams.

The 10-episode, one-hour program is created by Academy Award®-nominated and Emmy®-winning documentary filmmaker R.J. Cutler ("The War Room," "American High," Showtime's FRESHMAN DIARIES) and executive produced by Cutler, Jay Roach (director of "Austin Powers in Goldmember," "Meet the Parents") and Tom Lassally ("Stay").

Week-by-week, candidates will face-off against each other in a series of challenges designed to identify one individual who has the qualities to be President of the United States. Episodes of AMERICAN CANDIDATE will feature well-known political experts who advise the candidates on the challenges they will face. These consultants help the candidates shape their messages and campaigns, as well as give advice on everything from political ad creation and media coaching to image consulting and polling.

She served in the White House from 1993 to 1997, where she created and managed the Clinton Administration's National Performance Review, also known as "reinventing government." She conducts research on twenty-first century government, the role of the Internet in political campaigns, homeland defense, and governmental reform and innovation.

Senator Bob Kerrey
President, The New School
Former U.S. Senator & Governor, Nebraska For twelve years prior to becoming President of New School University, Bob Kerrey represented the State of Nebraska in the United States Senate. Before that he served as Nebraska's Governor for four years. He the author of When I Was A Young Man: A Memoir, published by Harcourt Books (May 2002).

Henry Louis Gates Jr., Ph.D.
Chair, Afro-American Studies Department, Harvard University Director, W.E.B. Du Bois Institute, Harvard University An influential cultural critic, Professor Gates' honors and grants include a MacArthur Foundation "genius grant" (1981), the George Polk Award for Social Commentary (1993) , Chicago Tribune Heartland Award (1994), the Golden Plate Achievement Award (1995), Time magazine's "25 Most Influential Americans" list (1997), and a National Humanities Medal (1998).

Wendy Kopp
Founder and President, Teach for America
Wendy Kopp founded Teach For America in 1989. Now, one of her generation's most recognized social entrepreneurs, Kopp continues to serve as the organization's president. In addition to her role at Teach For America, Kopp is chair of the board of The New Teacher Project, a non-profit consulting group which helps school districts and states recruit and develop new teachers more effectively. In 2003, Kopp was appointed to the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation.

Ron Nessen
Vice-President, Office of Communications, The Brookings Institution
Former Press Secretary to President Gerald R. Ford Ron Nessen served five tours as an NBC war correspondent in Vietnam and later served as NBC News White House correspondent during the Johnson administration, before becoming press secretary to President Gerald R. Ford from 1974-76. More recently, he has been the senior vice president of public affairs and communications at the Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association. Nessen has written several books including: It Sure Looks Different From the Inside; The First Lady; and The Hour.

Norm Ornstein, Ph.D.
Resident Scholar, American Enterprise Institute Norm Ornstein researches politics, Congress, and elections. He is the director of the Transition to Governing Project and the founder of the Campaign Finance Reform Working Group. He holds a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Michigan and is the author of many articles and books, including The Permanent Campaign and Its Future and Campaign Finance.

Larry Sabato, Ph.D.
Professor of Government and Foreign Affairs, University of Virginia
Dr. Sabato is an election analyst and the Robert Kent Gooch Professor of Government and Foreign Affairs at the University of Virginia. He is a former Rhodes Scholar and Danforth Fellow. Dr. Sabato is author of numerous books including DIRTY LITTLE SECRETS: The Resurgence of Corruption in American Politics, a critical study of the nation's politics, published by Random House/Times Books.

Kathryn Tenpas, Ph.D.
Presidential Scholar, University of Pennsylvania
Guest Scholar, The Brookings Institution Dr. Tenpas is author of several articles on American politics, including "The American Presidency: Surviving and Thriving amidst the Permanent Campaign" and "The Presidency and the Permanent Campaign," both presented at the American Enterprise Institute.
