I was under the impression that the most recent classes of subs were that SSBNs (the ballistic missile subs, like the Ohio class) were named for states, and the SSNs (the hunter/killers, like the Los Angeles class) were named for cities.
Is this because of the ability of the newer subs to fire cruise missiles?
