There was a time when battleships were given names of the states and the subs werte named for fish.

Actually, I was going to ask something about that as well... I was under the impression that the most recent classes of subs were that SSBNs (the ballistic missile subs, like the Ohio class) were named for states, and the SSNs (the hunter/killers, like the Los Angeles class) were named for cities.

Is this because of the ability of the newer subs to fire cruise missiles?
