Avoid German Shepherds too.

The absolute greatest breed of dog on the face of the earth. The two I have owned were absolutely fanstastic with children. Small children can pull thier ears or ride them like a horse with no negative reactions. The dogs may not like it, but they will submit.

One of my cousins was visiting one day with her brattish son, who was about three years old at the time. He wandered toward the street while we were seeing them off. Our german shepherd went and grabbed the child by the shirt sleeve and pulled him back out of the street, and then stood between him and the street to keep him from getting into it.

They are gentle around those tht they should be gentle around, and exceedingly protective of thier "pack". They can be extremely viscious if they percieve anything to be threatening those whom they would protect. They are very easy to train, and socialize very well. You just have to be selective about which bloodline you choose.

All in all, pound for pound, the best thing going in the doggie kingdom. Just my opinion based on personal experience.

You know I don't know why people like to label rottweilers. I'm not in any way saying what happened wasn't horrible. BUT, all dogs can attack, breed does not matter. That dog was probably raised aggressive and attacked more that likely because it felt threatened. Its not the breed, its the owner!!! I have a 3yr old rottie and he is absolutely the best dog you could ask for. He is also very good with children for ALL AGES. He allows my 5 month old god daughter use him as a pillow while she naps and will not move a muscle fiber until she is awake. Hows that for vicious?!?!?!?
