Docs in His Sox: The Sandy Bergler Story
By Jennifer King
July 30, 2004
Recently, it has come out that former Clinton Administration National Security Advisor Samuel "Sandy" Berger was caught smuggling "Code Word" level Top Secret documents from the National Archives. Over a one month period Berger stole five draft copies of the so-called "Millennium Report", as well as hand written notes that he had made. Berger reportedly stuffed the pilfered documents on various places inside his clothing, including in his pants and socks. When news of the theft leaked out on July 20th, Mr. Berger said that he had "inadvertently" taken the documents and that it was an "honest mistake". Former President Bill Clinton said that "we were all laughing about it" when he heard of the incident, because "Sandy was always buried beneath papers."
Twisting the issue, Clinton insinuated that he thought "the timing" of this bombshell was more important than the actual event. Other spinmeisters, taking up the talking points, accused the GOP of trying to deflect attention from the 9/11 Commission Report. True to form, remember "Memogate"? Now this unprecedented incident - where a former National Security Advisor STEALS Top Secret documents from the National Archives, stuffs them in his clothes and allegedly loses some of them - becomes an "inadvertent", "honest mistake". Sure, docs in our sox - doesn't everybody?
Mr. Clinton is correct about one thing, the timing of the release was suspicious and it fit perfectly the Clinton/Lanny Davis M.O. - release incriminating information right before the weekend or a big event where it will get lost in the clutter and then become "old news". The DNC leftwing lovefest surely fit that bill, and the Sandy Bergler story has since accommodatingly floated away.
This unprecedented scandal deserves to be front and center. The missing papers were apparently drafts of "a sensitive after-action report on the Clinton Administration's handling of Al Qaeda terror threats during the December 1999 Millennium celebration." These still-missing documents also "identified America's terror vulnerabilities at airports and seaports." The missing documents were written by the now discredited Richard Clarke.
The 9/11 Commission, which had not seen the documents before they disappeared, is convinced that they were given all the pertinent information while compiling their final report. How do they know? Mr. Berger went to the National Archives in the fall of 2003, the Commission would not get around to looking at those particular documents until the following spring. Adding to the mystery, Mr. Berger was caught making prohibited cell phone calls to an "unauthorized authority" and he also must have been suffering from a bad case of "Al Gore's Iced Tea Syndrome", which necessitated many suspicious trips to the Archives john.
So, what was Sandy Bergler up to? A hint comes from the 9/11 report, which states that Richard Clarke had suggested getting Osama bin Laden no less than four times - May 1998, June 1999, January 2000 and August 2000. Each time, Berger scribbled "no" in the margin. Despite the ferocious rewriting of history by the Clintonistas, they essentially took a legalistic, law enforcement towards the burgeoning terrorist threat. Osama bin Laden had been at war with the United States since the early 1990's. The Clinton Administration simply declined to fight back.
The 1999 Millennium plot was foiled, not by swift government action but by "a border agent in Washington State who happened to notice a nervous, sweating man" getting off the ferry in Port Angeles. That man happened to be Ahmed Rassem and he was on his way to the Los Angeles International Airport with a car load of nitroglycerin, urea, sulfate and timers. In other words, to paraphrase John Ashcroft, "We got lucky."
And here is where the infamous "Gorelick Wall" plays a part. French intelligence had identified Ahmed Rassem to U.S. intelligence agencies as an al-Qaeda operative planning on attacking the United States. Yet when Customs grabbed Mr. Rassem, the Justice Department had no idea who he was.
When Sandy Berger testified before the 9/11 Commission, he described the Millennium plot plans as "The most secret threat spike of our time in government."
Berger further said that they provoked "sustained attention and rigorous actions" from the Clinton Administration which ended up saving lives. The after-action Millennium Plot report proved that testimony to be untrue. Sandy Bergler appears to have been covering his tracks.

"I created the conditions that led to 911 Atrocities.
We covered up our role. We and Berger destroyed the evidence.
We are ALL now exonerated. Get over it.
When President Kerry takes control, we will run both Justice and the State Dept.
You stupid people ought to stay out of our business"
Who's Who on the 9/11 "Independent" Commission
"According to a 1998 Senate testimony of former CIA director James
Woolsey, powerful financier Khalid bin Mahfouz younger sister is
married to Osama bin Laden,. (US Senate, Senate Judiciary
Committee, Federal News Service, 3 Sept. 1998, See also Wayne
Madsen, Questionable Ties, In These Times,12 Nov. 2001 )
Bin Mahfouz is suspected to have funneled millions of dollars to the Al
Qaeda network.(See Tom Flocco, Scoop.co.nz 28 Aug. 2002)
Now, "by sheer coincidence", former New Jersey governor Thomas
Kean has business ties with bin Mahfouz and Al-Amoudi.
Thomas Kean is a director (and shareholder) of Amerada Hess
Corporation , which is involved in the Hess-Delta joint venture with
Delta Oil of Saudi Arabia (owned by the bin Mahfouz and Al-Amoudi
clans)...
Now you would think that being a business partner of the brother in
law and alleged financier of "Enemy No. 1" would also be considered a
bona fide "conflict of interest", particularly when your mandate --as
part of the 9/11 Commission's work-- is to investigate "Enemy No. 1".
"(Michel Chossudovsky, New Chairman of 9/11 Commission had
business ties with Osama's Brother in Law,
Centre for Research on Globalization, December 2002 )
Commissioner Kean: "Ms Gorelick is one of the finest members
of the commission and one of the most bipartisan members.
People ought to stay out of our business"
