The 22-year-old pop singer and actress Aaliyah died in the Bahamas when her plane crashed, after her entourage overloaded it with equipment. Her fans were stricken, and her funeral on Manhattan's Upper East Side featured a horse-drawn hearse, a silver-plated coffin, and the release of 22 white doves.
This struck Rod Dreher, a columnist for the New York Post, as a little much. "The family of Aaliyah," he wrote, "does the poor woman's memory no favors with this tasteless gesture."
*** If my child died, I would give her the same funeral if I had the money at my fingertips. Al Sharpton has a nose for when people step in BS, well Sharpton is BS himself.
Well actually Johnson did sign it but the majority of Dems in Congress were against it...minor mistake.
Now let me get this straight. A 50+ YO black huckster is a spokeseman at the DNC convention. A man who never had a job, other than creating street fights. Maybe that is the true democrat?
NOR can he annunciate.
Ping!
You mean Tawana Sharpton lies?
To this day Sharpton has never apologized over his role in the Tawana incident. The guy's nothing more than a publicity hound.
Great analysis folks. We won't see it soon. But imagine the poli sci grad students and other serious researchers 50 years from now delving into the demo politics of today. It's absolute joy to consider how silly some folks are going to look. It's a bit of a concern that Sharpton and other clowns may have some impact on policy, but it's a joy to think of history when it's written by folks who have a chance of being impartial.
Stay on the RAT Plantation and all you'll get is what the mule leaves behind.
It is amazing to me that anyone would listen to him after he lied and then refused to recant or apologize when Tawana admitted the nature of the hoax.
My question on his speech:
Is Slave Reparations now part of the Dem Platform?
Why do they let him speak on the subject?
wasn't Hilton Head Island the private refuge at one time of JFnK's first father in law? I'm thinking I read that somewhere. Can anyone verify?

FACT!

Thanks for the ping.
I'm always amused by the claims for 40 acres and a mule, for this idea has in its origin less force and far less clarity than Lincoln's solution to slavery to buy the slaves from their holders and ship them back to Africa. I wonder if Sharpton would go fair is fair here. Gee, as my ancestors were the biggest slaveholders in Virginia, I might win the lotto on this one... Sharpton can have his 40 acres and a mule. I'll take mine in Halliburton shares...
It's all an absurd, stupid demagoguery that just won't go away. I'll wager that Sharpton and his kind will stop the call for 40 acres and a mule when John Kerry and his kind stop believing that tax cuts benefit only the rich.
Seems you truly can keep beating a dead mule.
In actuality, all slaves in Union states had been freed by state action prior to the passing of the 14th Amendment, with the exception of a few hundred in Deleware, most of whom had freed themselves by running off.
The idea that the Union ever had any notion of retaining slavery after the War is mere Confederate delusion.
a letter from MG Benjamin "spoons" Butler from May 1864 to Secretary Edwin Stanton plainly states that the lincoln regime's plan was to KEEP slaves in bondage in the north & to free SOUTHERN slaves only.
furthermore, "spoons" asked for permission for the army to use both free/slave blacks for "voluntary forced labor under military discipline". "spoons" said that "persons of colour were WELL-SUITED by nature to eternal servitude under strict white masters". (NICE GUY, huh!) what Stanton's response to "spoons" letter was, if any,is UNKNOWN.
the ORIGIONAL LETTER is framed & on a wall at the New Orleans African-American Museum.
lincoln & his coven of thugs/war criminals/hypocrites evidently planned to let every northern state decide for themselves, whether they wished to continue to keep slaves.

sounds like a typical bit of damnyankee hypocrisy to me.

I have no idea what "voluntary forced labor" is. You yourself point out that any reply to this request is not known.
You might be interested in a short history of the desperate but unsuccessful attempts by the northern states to retain slavery while abolishing it in the South.
1862
April Congress abolishes slavery in DC
May Lincoln issues proclamation encouraging border states to emancipate slaves gradually and with compensation
June Congress abolishes slavery in the territories
July Lincoln appeals to border state congressmen to support compensated emancipation
1863
March West Virginia voters abolish slavery
1864
March Arkansas voters abolish slavery
April Senate passes amendment abolishing slavery
September Louisiana abolishes slavery
November Maryland abolishes slavery
1865
January Missouri abolishes slavery
House passes amendment abolishing slavery
February Tennessee abolishes slavery
December 13th Amendment ratified, slavery abolished through US
So the 13th Amendment freed slaves only in Kentucky and Delaware.
All these attempts to end slavery took place while the Union was fighting desperately for its survival.
