Ralph Greenberg called, at 8 a.m. yesterday, as he has on every single solitary day since 1968. Sometimes, he calls two and three times over the day, with his last call always at 8 p.m.
If my wife answers the phone in the morning, he says, "Let me speak to Jimmy."
If I answer the phone, Ralph says, "Let me speak to Ronnie."
This time, she answered and handed the phone to me. He began, as he has for months, "When are you coming to see me?"
He lives in a group home in Woodstock.
I tried to get him off that right away. "What did you think of Edwards?" I asked.
"Not much."
"What makes you say that?"
"Edwards said he was on the intelligence committee. But he didn't tell us they were going to bomb us. Spot on. But the yahoos in the media keep lamenting the divide in our country. I guess they think if they keep raising the volume that we will accept their lies and go back to sleep. Not likely. My family's life is at stake.
Breslin passed "boring" a couple of decades ago. He is as irrelevant as Newsday.
That's a pretty pathetic salute. If my army DS ever saw me present something that limp-wristed, I would have been doing some push-ups!
