Rushed speech, lost opportunity [Dem rump-swab trashes speech]
The Boston Globe ^ | July 30, 2004 | By Thomas Oliphant

FOR REASONS he might like to explain, John Kerry last night raced through an acceptance speech that was way too long for a time slot he knew about for weeks.

Desperate to stay within the broadcast networks' paltry 60 minutes, Kerry stepped on his best thoughts and lines and blurred important proposals and distinctions, committing the sin of interfering with his own ability to communicate with an electorate eager to learn much more about President Bush's opponent. At a Democratic convention planned to showcase a candidate and his basic approach to two huge situations -- a bogged-down military adventure in Iraq and a fragile economy -- Kerry obscured his presentation in a blizzard of hard-to-follow verbiage dictated by the clock.

Right after Kerry spoke, C-SPAN 2 played the tape of President Bush's 2000 acceptance speech while the balloons were dropping and all the hoopla was going on in Boston.

I'm tellin' ya. There was no comparison to the two speeches. And The Prez is going to do even better this time with 4 years to hone his speaking skills.

Kerry's reportedly rushed through his too-long speech in order to fit in the networks' 1 hr. time slot.......SOOOOOOOOOO, it's the networks fault!

I guess oliphant is mad that kerry couldn't have a castro like 3 to 4 hour rant on national tv.

I have never had the priviledge of sitting through a John Kerry speech, so I can't compare it to any other speech. If that mish-mash of competing ideas and thoughts is the best that he has done ever, then I'm really glad I haven't had the opportunity to watch him before.

But you are absolutely right about the bullseye being painted on his chest. His "threat" to the President not to go negative was nothing more than a plea not to use his record against him.

"I'm John Kerry and I'm....REPORTING FOR DUTY!

[harrumph] "Lieutenant Kerry, I know that because of that unfortunate Chappaquidick incident, I may never be President, and that's where you come in... Do you remember that old movie 'The Manchurian Candidate'?"

Yeah really. Let me get this straight: 4 months of service in Vietnam qualifies him to lead the War On Terror in the absence of any other notable accomplishment? That's a tall leap. At least we'd have a liberal anti-war military veteran in the White House instead of a liberal anti-war draft dodger.

I have rarely been impressed with Bush's speeches. I really believe he needs new speechwriters. I was particularly unmoved with his words at the Reagan funeral.

Kerry didn't allow the audience to react. He needed to.

You're thinking too logically here. You have to stop that and look at it from the average voters perspective.

It's not Kerry's fault? Oliphant is "Blaming the time allocated???"

Typical liberal B.S. It's ALWAYS someone else's fault to these guys.

Sheesh. He's had weeks to work on this and practice it; can't liberals ever encourage their own to take some responsibility?

Being an inveterate liar will interfere with one's ability to communicate, you know. I especially loved his "God bless!" remark.

How about just general nervousness, knowing that his whole boring speech was a pack of lies?

My mouth fell open while listening to it. I couldn't believe that he was failing so bad.

Answered prayer.

Ter-A-zah... wants to be called 'Mama T'. You know, kinda like Mother Teresa. That's what she said to the queers anyway. HA!

The Kerry girls call her

"Step-Money". Truth.

Did anyone else see Mama T at the fireworks? She reached way behind her, grabbed Kerry by the butt, pulled him around and back to her! She played air violin, clapped to the music with timing way off...and nearly fell down not once, but twice. Bizarre!

she was looking old and cranky at the fireworks...but she PAID for them so she was damn well going to watch them!

I, personally, think that he rushed because he thought by speaking fast he could substitute quantity for quality.

When skating on thin ice, speed is your friend.
