As many as 60 per cent of the United States' top science students and 65 per cent of those who excelled in mathematics are children of immigrants, a new study has found.
Foreign-born high school students make up 50 per cent of the 2004 US Math Olympiad top scorers, 38 per cent of the US Physics Team and 25 per cent of Intel Science Talent Search finalists, America's most prestigious awards for young scientists and mathematicians, the study said.

"These findings provide evidence that maintaining an open policy toward skilled professionals, international students, and legal immigration is vital to America's technological and scientific standing in the world," Stuart Anderson, Executive Director of NFAP and author of the report, said.
"If opponents of immigration had succeeded over the past 20 years, two-thirds of the most outstanding future American scientists and mathematicians would not be here today because US policy would have barred their parents from entering the United States," said Anderson. --------------------------------------------------------

Because it is the national interest of the US to allow Muslins to come here if they aren't terrorists. Why write off 1/5 of the world and also damage the US's reputation abroad by having a religiously discriminatory immigration policy?
If all Muslims are banned, the message will be clear and you won't see any talented immigrants come here, with the possible exception of European ones. Talented immigrants can enter virtually any country on Earth. They won't go anywhere that discriminates. President Bush has the right policy on legal immigration.
Both Savage and Buchanan have a problem with non-white immigration. Heck, Savage advocates internment camps for millions of Americans.
I can. Most of them come here to get away from the culture of death that dominates their home countries and fit in well- what we need is an effective means of keeping out the Saudi lunatics.
Because "moderate Moslems" are as rare as unicorns. They almost universally SUPPORT the goals of terrorists. They belong to organizations like Hamas that promote terrorism. We didn't let Nazis in. Why should we allow Islamo-fascists?
If you evidence supporting that, produce it and send it to John Ashcroft and George W. Bush immediately.
Do you think you know more than them about US security?
Millions of "Americans?"
Islamic radicals are a clear and present danger. Deport the illegals, and scrub the rest of anyone with a whiff of "KILL THE JOOOS!" on 'em. And that is alsmot all of them.
If both your parents were born in the USA, then you would not be a child of an immigrant to the USA. That would be true even if you were not born in the USA yourself.
In how many nations have Islamic fundamentalists won a majority of the vote? Thanks in advance.
What about Syrian musicians and singers who perform songs that glorify suicide bombers?
Do you think our border security is acceptable? Do you think a competent person would be in charge of border security as it stands? A lobotomized chimp could do better.
The writer of this article draws conclusions that prove that we Americans must be stupid at math, as math and logic are often intertwined.
First of all, I would like to know if these students had a different primary educational background in science and math than U.S. students. Is there a key ingredient missing that causes natural-born Americans to be woefully deficient in these subjects?
It would also be interesting to find out the educational background of the 40% of American students who also scored high in math and science.
The article doesn't mention which percentage of these high-scorers who are schooled in private or public settings. Perhaps there is a specific region of the U.S. that these students emigrated to which generally has higher scores in math and science than others.
There is just so much left out.

This article is in today's educationnews.org regarding math education in this country.

Apparently, the author feels that math education in this country could be improved.
Excuse me for butting on your conversation, but since you asked... NORWEGIANS!
Those dam people are ALL OVER the place. I can't go anywhere without running into one. Their cooking stinks and they drive like shi heck too. They're always getting drunk and smashing into things. They think they're driving a darn sleigh or something!
So OUT Norwegians, get OUT!
Extreme sarcasm off

You have defined the problem with this report. Did they take into account whether the parents were legal or illegal immigrants? Were all the children the same age when their parents immigrated, or were they born in the U.S.? What education had the parents received before they immigrated?
This would be useful information in assessing immigration policies. What they give us in this article is interesting but not helpful.
Please include original titles when posting.
Thanks.
Maybe the reason is that the parents of the Indian students place their emphasis on school work and not on soccer games and dance class and gymnastics class. My 13 year old daughter has friends who are on the go from one extra-curricular activity to another, from the time school ends until 8 or 9 at night. When they do homework I'll never know.
where is their loyalty ?
