I remember "students" who worked that scam all the way back in the 60s. Wouldnt' be surprised if Hacking was doing this too. If he wasn't, the question is how was he supporting himself and his habits? Was he sponging off his hard-working wife? Was he getting a generous "allowance" from Daddy? Did he finagle some kind of government "disability" check? Was he dealing? Stealing? Sponging off other women?

I know he didn't walk around with nothing but lint in his pockets.

He was probably sponging of her and his parents and expecting the same in NC but with her pregnant he could not count on her income. It was their plan to have kids AFTER med school.

Who knows. Maybe he was taking her money and also working a little on the side while he was supposed to be in class.

But then again, he may have actually been going to class. Just no making the grade.
