Another caller after Elder mentioned that Bush 41 failed to go after Clinton on his character and that GWB may be making the same mistake. The caller specifically referred to Elder's call. Instead, Laura went on a tangent about the campaign starting on Saturday and Bush should lay out his plans for the next four years. Either she missed the caller's point or she tried to avoid the issue.

After Elder finished, Laura ruminated that this may not be a useful avenue of attack for Bush since the Dems could respond that Kerry was risking his life in Vietnam and Bush was in the National Guard. She also said that the Dems have been going lightly lately in terms of attacking Bush on his National Guard record. I think this is what prompted the call mentioned above.

Elder was a great guest--articulate, informative, and authoritative. Laura needs to stand back and let a guest like Elder get out his message. I listen to her every day so I don't think I am being unfair. She doesn't think that attacking Kerry on his military record is useful. His antiwar activities yes, his military service no.

I vividly remember in 1992 when President Bush made a negative comment about scumbag Clinton. The NY TIMES jumped on it and criticized him for going negative. Unfortunately, the Bush campaign backed down and the rest is dark history.

Dubya should not do the attacks. The swifties are the right ones to go after Kerry. We need to find ways to help keep their message rolling.

I don't think they have at all. A lot of the speakers at the DNC have mentioned that Kerry volunteered to go to VN. The contrast they are making is obvious. And IIRC, he only "volunteered" to go to VN after he found out he couldn't avoid it.

I would agree with her......there is nothing I find in the docs that really screams expose to write about.

Nevertheless, I think this is worthy. The swiftvets stuff IS worthy of reporting....very damning stuff.

Somebody needs to ask Kerry who put him in for his medals.
