I didn't get my SSN till I was 15. My daughter got hers right before her first birthday because I needed it for the tax forms. No one requires a child to have an SSN before leaving the hospital. Methinks you're making this stuff up to drum up hysteria.

I think my granddaughter who is now 20 had to get one before leaving the hospital if my memory serves me correctly. I know you have to have one if you or your child is enrolled in any government welfare program.
