Young speaker steals delegates' hearts Cheney needs a timeout, she tells conventionThe Associated Press Updated: 12:21 p.m. ET July 28, 2004BOSTON - Twelve-year-old Ilana Wexler had some advice for Vice President Dick Cheney: You need a timeout. The Democrats loved it. Ilana, who founded a grassroots group called kidsforkerry.org, was rewarded last week with a phone call from Teresa Heinz Kerry inviting her to address the Democratic National Convention. With her high-pitched delivery and breathy enthusiasm, the seventh-grader from Oakland, Calif., wowed the crowd Tuesday night. And when she chided Cheney for using a four-word expletive in an exchange with Democratic Sen. Patrick Leahy, she brought delegates roaring to their feet. When our vice president had a disagreement with a Democratic senator, he used a really bad word, Ilana said. If I said that word, I would be put in a timeout. I think he should be put in a timeout. Ilana recounted how she skipped camp this year to work for the Kerry campaign full time, and how she liked Kerrys commitment to education, America and kids. The last time I saw John Kerry, he grabbed my arm and said, 'See you at the convention. And here I am, Ilana said, pumping her fists. What will be even more amazing will be the inauguration in January when we have a new president, knowing that kids have made the difference in this election. After the speech, Ilanas parents, Jonathan and Heidi Wexler, accepted congratulations from dozens of delegates as they dabbed tears from their eyes. She was a little bit nervous before, when she saw how big this place was, Jonathan Wexler said. But she was just great. We are so proud. Ilanas star power has already been tapped by David Letterman, who will feature an interview with her Wednesday on his show. Jay Leno has called, too. © 2004 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. Hippie-style hair??
She resembles Trotsky a little.
Don't worry Annie....The sun'll come out tomorrow.
Yeah and I bet she filed for 527 status too for the group SHE founded.
*cough* bulls**t, bulls**t *cough*
I wonder if she knows anything about why we call John F'n Kerry? I guess she ignored his f-word rant at the end of last year.... and, unlike Cheney, Kerry's rant was on video/audio!
Is there a rule somewhere that all women representing the Democratic Party must be ugly as sin?
Yes, he should've said, "F--- you, Leaky"
"When our vice president had a disagreement with a Democratic senator, he used a really bad word, Ilana said. If I said that word, I would be put in a timeout. I think he should be put in a timeout.
News flash to braindead Ilana: No one gives a sh*t what you think. What, you gonna put me in a timeout?
This is why kids should be seen and not heard. Actually, this little pinko looks like the illegitimate child of Larry Fine, so she shouldn't be seen either.
Brain washed child. I once lived in the state of the brain washed.....flee as fast as your little feet will carry you.
I really hate it when either party uses children as campaign props. It's just... wrong somehow. It always puts me in mind of photos of the Hitler Youth. What do these kids know about anything anyway?
That picture makes her look like a young, white version of Angela Davis.
Agreed. I don't wnat to know the political opinions of anyone who's not old enough to vote.
I almost would have expected her to be wearing her "Young Pioneers" red scarf.
Yep - also another good reason why we don't allow kids to vote.
