You do not automatically become an American citizen by marrying an American. My hubby is from England...in fact, he was not a citizen while he fought for this country in Viet Nam...and received two very real Purple Hearts while in combat. Upon returning he went through the process to become a citizen and we proudly watched his swearing in at Camp Lejune, NC in 1970.
