Oh, Deer: Steyn Shoots Down Kerry's Hunting Tale
Newsmax.com ^ | Carl Limbacher

Doh! A deer!

Apparently hoping to outdo Hillary Clinton's improbable attempt to reinvent herself as a duck hunter, John Kerry has tried to avoid alienating supporters of gun rights by depicting himself as a deer hunter. Mark Steyn will have none of it.

Steyn wrote in the London Telegraph yesterday:

"He was in Wisconsin the other day, pretending to be a regular guy, and was asked what kind of hunting he preferred. 'I'd have to say deer,' said the senator. 'I go out with my trusty 12-gauge double-barrel, crawl around on my stomach ... That's hunting.'

"This caused huge hilarity among my New Hampshire neighbours. None of us has ever heard of anybody deer hunting by crawling around on his stomach, even in Massachusetts. The trick is to blend in with the woods and, given that John Kerry already looks like a forlorn tree in late fall, it's hard to see why he'd give up his natural advantage in order to hunt horizontally.

Oh, Pooh

"Possibly his weird Vietnam nostalgia is getting out of control. Still, if I come across a guy in the woods in deer season inching through the undergrowth with a mouthful of bear scat, at least I'll know who it is," Steyn noted.

Considering that these days Kerry looks more like a bunny wabbit than Elmer Fudd, perhaps he could use a refresher course from Gun Owners of America, which, by the way, he still hasn't met with, despite his phony claim that he'd meet with any critical group.

I had a single shot .410 when I was a kid, never used it for deer. It was mostly for bunnies.

I had a Stevens 22-410 over/under as a kid... Now there's a bunny gun!

Is it possible that there's a bunch of tractors (along with their muscle car allies) lurking somewhere ready to strike?

Yes he has. NASA took him on one.

Someone oughta ask Kerry the gun-expert what caliber his shotgun is? An 11 gauge or a 13 gauge?

Yeah, but you never snagged three Purple Hearts in Vietnam with two scratches and a band-aid, and two rich broads in America with a horse face

Hey,I take offense to that.I'd settle for ONE rich broad.

Double barrel's are for boids, not deer.

In California, if you use a pump, it can hold no more that 3 shells. (I just checked)

The shotgun is pretty much restricted to waterfowl and clays.

I've pretty much given up on clays.
No matter how I cook them they always taste like mud.

What kind of deer do you hunt with a shotgun?

Ever wondered how "buckshot" got the name?

And a double barrel shotgun? Yes, a few do use them according to hunting magazines I've read, but I don't remember running into someone who did in all my years of hunting.
You ought to get out more, though I've more commonly run into other hunters using Stevens 311 doubles and the like for rabbits.

I suspect Kerry's image of a hunter using a double afield derives from another source entirely, however. And cwaling awound on their tummies:

"...Who hunts deer with a 12 gauge shot gun? Maybe a 306 or a 30 30 or a few other nice rifles I can think of, but a 12 gauge? Alrightee then...."

Actually a lot of people. My husband uses a 12 gauge with slugs, and I've used a 16 and 20 gauge with slugs. No scopes.

Aside from the dog (who prudently is putting as much distance between himself and that loon as he can), it's obviously a borrowed shotgun because the stock is about 3 inches too short for Lurch. When he fires that thing, it is going to beat the tar out of his shoulder thanks to the 3 inches of momentum . . . this happened to my husband once (he's 6'6" and was shooting my 5'7" grandfather's Browning 16 ga. humpback - he just couldn't get it tight enough against his shoulder and he sported a bruise for weeks. We took it to the gunsmith and he let 4" into the stock.)

BTW, it's a very expensive borrowed shotgun. Looks Italian, and in some other photos taken at the time you could see the engraving, gold inlay, etc.

The cheap gimme safety vest that doesn't fit tells me that he's never hunted in his life before.

My first dear was shot while I was on my stomach. I was in open range country with not a tree or fence post in sight, he was standing there waiting for me at about 250 yards, put my pack on the ground for a gun rest, got in the prone position and tagged him. Very cooperative of him to stand there and wait for me. I wouldn't have taken the shot from a standing position without a gun rest of some sort.

That being said, no one crawls on their belly looking for dear. I had the opportunity to get in the most stable position available and I took it. This crawling on your belly stuff is nonsense. The sad thing is, he actually thinks that hunters would buy this story.

Double barrel 12 gage! Sure pal. In WI you can't use a rifle in many areas. But a double barrel? Get real.

The Democrats think the reason they don't do well with hunters and religious people is because of their marketing techniques. They just don't get it. It's comical watching them try to convince people they really do believe in God, and love to hunt to.

Is there anyone in the country who buys this pant load from this idiot?

Why do you know he is a Liar tring to kiss up to hunters when he says he uses his double barrel shotgun to hunt deer?

Double Barrel shotguns have the left barrel full choked.
It is smaller in diameter.

A deer slug would split the end of the gun right open... deer slugs and OO Buckshot are to be shot in open choke single shot guns. Copy and paste this tidbit to real sportsmen, not Billionaire awful woman chasers.
