We were surprised to get a postcard from the Democrat party stating that Carson is the NRA choice. Surely this can't be true? In any event, we won't vote for a 'Rat. Does anyone have more information on this?

he is a member of the NRA, but I find it hard to believe he is their choice over Coburn.

This is the deal with Carson and the NRA. When the Klinton "assault weapons" ban was passed, a key player was a Democrat congressman named Mike Synar, from this very same congressional district. He was a lefty, in a way that's peculiar to the "Little Dixie" area of Oklahoma that comprises this district. However, this was a stab in the back to many of his constituents, who believed that he would never do such a thing to them.

This motivated the 2nd amendment folks in his district to actively dump his ass and vote for none other than Tom Coburn in the election of '94. "Ban Synar" signs were seen everywhere. (BTW, Mike Synar died from a brain tumor a few years ago after being voted out of office.) Carson knows this, and has pretty much towed the line on 2nd amendment issues, lest he offend his constituency again. Thus a good opportunity for the NRA to endorse a Democrat to support their claims to bipartisanship.

In the future, watch the Dem candidate for this seat, one Dan Boren, son of former Senator David Boren. What will he do, and how will he fare with gun owners? Time will tell...
