REAGAN JR. IN PITCH ON STEM CELLS
New York Post ^ | 7/28/04 | KENNETH LOVETT

July 28, 2004 -- BOSTON — Less than two months after his Republican-icon father died, the son of Ronald Reagan stood before the Democratic National Convention and took not-so-subtle digs at President Bush's opposition to stem-cell research. "A few of you may be surprised to see someone with my last name showing up to speak at a Democratic convention," Ron Reagan Jr. said.

Reagan never mentioned Bush by name.

But he chastised those "who would deny federal funding so crucial to basic research" that could help find cures for an array of diseases, including Alzheimer's, which took his father's life.

After listening to a lib rant on RR the other day it strikes me as ironic that the son of the President known for being anti government, who "thought ketchup was a food" and "wouldnt talk about a new disease called HIV aids thus killing thousands of gays" was on the stage with the widow of a ketchup mogul who was talking about her new husband, the fighter, who won medals but was anti-war and threw someone else's medals away to make a point, and that son of a President was talking about the government's not doing enough to cure diseases and keep thousands from dying.

Aint Dem.politics grand

I think it's safe to say that Ron Jr. is probably glad his father died. This is lower than low, it's disgusting.

Why should the federal government use the sweat and blood extracted from those who work in America to pay for research that medical companies would do on a profit motive basis?

And what reasons are there for companies not to do this?

Either the profit has been removed by the government from doing the research or it is not profitably feasible.
