Sixth-Grade Teacher Said To Have Partied With Students
VICTORVILLE, Calif. -- A 16-year-old boy testified he smoked marijuana before school with a teacher who is on trial for allegedly supplying students with booze and pot before she performed lewd acts with them.
The teenager said Monday that he obtained marijuana to share at a party at the home of Jamie Renee Putman, 35, who taught sixth-grade students at Harry R. Sheppard Middle School. The teenager said he was 13 at the time and was a student in Putman's class.
The boy also testified during the first day of the trial how the teacher smoked marijuana out of soda pop cans with him before driving him to school in February 2001.
Deputy District Attorney Karen Michaels said Putman's alleged encounters involved two different groups of approximately 10 middle school students.
During one party at the teacher's house, Michaels said, a teen got so drunk he passed out and woke up naked in the teacher's bed, unsure whether he had sex with her.
"She had a great relationship with her students, perhaps too good," Michaels said, adding former students will testify about numerous parties Putman allegedly hosted at her Adelanto home where she supplied beer, wine coolers, tequila and marijuana.
Defense attorney Ronald Skipper said the case has been blown out of proportion.
"The evidence will show vile, horrible rumors and gossip," Skipper said.
Putman is charged with two counts of lewd acts with a child, one count of unlawful sexual intercourse, eight counts of furnishing marijuana to minors, 11 counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and one count of possessing marijuana on school grounds.
If convicted, Putman could be sentenced to more than 18 years in prison.
I don't think there's enough alcohol in the state of Texas to get me drunk enough to even consider entering the house of that creature!!!
