You're both right. He probably should have gotten out in front of the story. Maybe that would have inoculated him, maybe not. But the "outing" of Jack Ryan still stinks. It is certainly a case of politics of personal destruction.

Obama did give a good speech, though full of everything you would expect to be on the democratic platform. Few of the democrats even knew who he was prior to the speech, and now he is the star of the show. I'm listening to liberal talk radio (710 KIRO Seattle) right now and Obama is all they are talking about. That is not good for Kerry. They have been saying, Teresa needed to put on a great show and get people to fall in love with her. That didn't happen. She was dull, she looked tired, and frankly homely. The host of the radio show an anti-war gay leftist, says he was not impressed with Teresa, but liked this young man with the funny name.
