I must confess, though, to being confused. Police evacuated a six-block area, went door to door and executed a search warrant, police said. A K-9 police dog also was seen sniffing near homes.

Did the search warrant authorize searching all of the homes in the area? Were they searching for weapons, perpetrators, or both? Is there such a thing as a blanket search warrant that allows police to search all the homes in a 6-block area? That seems awfully broad. How could there be probable cause to search individual homes in this manner?
