Local news just announced that the families of Lori Hacking have called off the volunteer search. They said they were not taking cues from the police, but were concerned that the volunteers were being sent into some dangerous areas.
According to the family spokesman, the families don't know anything more about the police investigation than what is broadcast on the news. The report this morning was that the police spent last night searching the county landfill with cadaver dogs.

How thoughtful of them; but yet, how also painful for them.

That's true. One of the two best criminal lawyers in Salt Lake. I hope he just negotiates a plea bargain. I hope Mark doesn't spend a million dollars of his Dad's money on a phoney defense.

I'm betting it's in the missing mattress...I think so, too. I think they'll find what they're looking for in the dump.

Interesting article. It's all over for Mark once they find the body.

The article says police found a mattress in a trash bin.
To: lady lawyer
I find it unbelievable that the police are not keeping them informed on the progress of the disappearance of their daughter.
Sorry for their plight, nothing could be more tragic.

The Hacking family stated that the lawyer was recommended to them by someone in the prosecutor's office.
Seems to be trying to protect the guilty, ala the Ramsey case?

The Hacking family stated that the lawyer was recommended to them by someone in the prosecutor's office. It could be that the prosecutor simply advised them to get "a" lawyer, not a specific one. Might be a way to ensure that the investigation isn't tainted later by a suspect not having had his attorney present for questioning, or something like that. It may not be as sinister as it would look at first.

True, but Mark Hacking has done and is doing everything possible to convict himself short of confessing to the murder. I think it's interesting that his lawyer is heavily involved in overturning Utah's death penalty and takes on death penalty cases. It may be that his family is just trying to save his neck once he is convicted.
