And don't forget, there is another George Bush in the wings. George P. Bush. A little young now, but give him time, I think the kid's got potential.

Proper credentials for the presidency consist of
- successful experience and strong reelection as a governor, preferably of a large state, and
- attainment of national office within about a dozen years of attaining the governorship.
I'm not sure the Republic can stand the want of a strong Republican candidate in '08. And although it is still early (you wouldn't have necessarily considered GWB the frontrunner in '96, for example), at present I consider Jeb's credentials for consideration for the presidency to be preeminent among those not named George W. Bush.

Jeb has a proven ability to connect with Latino voters, and that will be a pre-requisite for victory in the 2010s, and later. Latino voters will be a clear majority in CA, TX, AZ, and NM, will be decisive minorities in FL, NV, UT, CO, OR, WA, and NY, and will be at least as sizable as blacks in most other states, including states where the community was almost invisible a few years ago (GA and NC, for example).

I was looking forward to Bush/Keyes '08.
This opens the door for Guiliani or Romney. The last thing we need is a pro-abortion Republican presidential candidate.
