ARTICLE SNIPPET: ""Churches in those states are being strong-armed and pushed around because of their beliefs," said Lafferty in a press release. "We want those religious citizens to get the protection they are promised in the Constitution. It is time somebody pushed back at the liberal bullies. This is harassment, pure and simple. Churches in Kansas and Missouri which oppose homosexual marriage go to the top of the coalition's target list for some monitoring.'""
Jesus said: "And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore, they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder." -from THE BIBLE: Matthew 19:4-6

"Churches cannot represent an political ideology, but Unions can."
"Render unto the Caesar..." Unions are the things of Caesar's world, while churches are not supposed to be. Hence the difference.

Alas this is not Rome. There is no Caesar. In this Republic everything is Man's to be rendered accordingly and with respect to one's values... including or regardless of religion.

Why? The unions in your example are after political and economic power, money, influence -in the here and now, not in the next world. If I ever saw Caesar's things, here they are, all of them. Rome does not have to be in Italy.

I am after power, money, and influence in this life as well... in order to shape this nation of free men and women in accordance with the concepts and values that I understand and uphold as a sentient being of reality. I do not surrender the gift of
this life for an as yet unrealized eternal destiny for which I must be
dead to accept. I am living, and as such will and must act accordingly. I will certainly not surrender this Republic - which , in essence, is simply an organized assembly of free individuals - to the tyrants of debauchery, for an illusion of helplessness. Tis is not Rome, and their can be no Caesar unless we allow it. With respect to human history, Rome is most certainly not simply a place in Italy. For Man, Rome is a metaphor for the earliest concepts of greatness and freedom surrendered to the rot of empirial statism... civilization giving way to the reign of darkness by the centuries surrender of moral integrity. When the primacy of the State supercedes the notion of the individual in a political context, it is not Caesar that you must fear, but the barbarians that will devour you and I, right after him.
Unions represent the primacy of the collective state. Churches and other forums for open assembly represent the individual. Take your pick. But, be careful that you don't, by your voluntary omission, surrender to Caesar and the barbarians, that which belongs to you... and me... as provided for our inalienable pleasure by gift of God.

I see Caesar's world (figurative expression) as the regular secular sphere. As much as one is after Caesar's things - one is subject to Caesar. Kingdom of God is NOT of this world, and all the attempts to bring it here have so far resulted in gigantic bloodbaths. Therefore the said Kingdom better be kept in its existing place, out of Caesar's sphere.

This world is the Kingdom of Man, as given by God, to be cultivated and guarded accordingly... secular, religious, or otherwise. Righteousness is NOT the sole legacy nor responsibility of the annointed. This nation is proof... albeit as fragile as Mr. Franklin reminded. The 'blood baths' of which you speak, are the sole creation of men attempting to pilfer God's gift from other men by means of those willing to let the Garden be surrendered in an attempt to prematurely attain the Kingdom of God. As I have stated previously on this forum, the righteous (both secular and religious) have more in coming with one another, than with the barbarians who seek to devour us both. We stand strongest when we stand together in accordance with that which is right.... whether bestowed by Abraham, Aristotle or Jesus... and manifested in the form of this great Republic.
