I've heard of detox treatments to rid the body of parasites via diet designed to kill the critters.

Firts base for the Yankees is a tough position. Lou gehrig was a first basemen who died with an Incurable disease.

Here's one for tapeworms:

Eat one hard boiled egg and a chocolate chip cookie everyday.
Don't eat anything else that day.
Do this for seven days.
On the eighth day, just eat the hard boiled egg.
Put on a pair of leather work gloves, pull your pants and boxers down to around your knees and lean forward.
When the tapeworm comes out your butt and asks "where's my cookie?" Grab him! and yank.

Tapeworm infestation removed.

Without doubt, that's the funniest thing I've read on this forum today.

Very strange. My first thought was that he was having steroid withdrawal. Now I'm not so sure.

Poor guy. I, also, thought it was because he had stopped using steroids. My bad.

This one's nasty. Very similar to Giardia. CLICK HERE FOR INFO.

Entamoeba histolytica

Amebiasis is transmitted by fecal contamination of drinking water and foods, but also by direct contact with dirty hands or objects as well as by sexual contact.

6. Relative Frequency of Disease: The infection is "not uncommon" in the tropics and arctics, but also in crowded situations of poor hygiene in temperate-zone urban environments. It is also frequently diagnosed among homosexual men.

Mine too... I'm still not so sure past steroid use isn't compounding his issues...

This would be truly sad. Let's pray that he is ok.

This is utterly tragic. He could die from this.

Ok, is Giambi married? Does anyone know? Any known girlfriends?

Wow. I sure hope he pulls through from this. How the heck do you get an intestinal parasite in modern-day New York, anyway?

Actually, both Giambi and Kevin Brown got this parasite after the Yanks trip to Japan to start the season. There's speculation they picked it up in Japan somehow. I think Giambi's wife (who accompanied him to Japan) also got the parasite. Kevin Brown is still on the DL but should be back soon. I think Giambi's wife has also fully recovered. All three were put on antibiotics.

The greatest probability, is that he picked up the parasite(s) off a glass at a restaurant or other source of what he innocently thought would be clean water but was not.

Giardia Lamblia is now common across North America and is found in reservoirs. Families get it "after a weekend at the state park." The parents usually do not show symptoms, but one of the kids is mysteriously not feeling well within a couple weeks. The kid gets tested, positive, then a wise doctor tests the whole family and viola!

Giambi AND Kevin Brown have parasite infections. Probably related to the team's visit to Japan.
