Tonight We Observe the Darkest Day in Jewish History (Plus DNC Opening Ceremonies)
Tisha B'Av ^ | Cinnamon Girl

Posted on 07/26/2004 9:46:48 AM PDT by Cinnamon Girl

Tonight, beginning at sundown, we observe the major fast day of Tisha B'Av, the 9th of Av. On this day in Jewish history, The first Bais Hamikdosh (Temple) and the second Bais Hamikdosh were both destroyed. It was decreed that our forefathers (who left Egypt) would remain in the desert and not enter the Land of Israel. The city of Betar was captured and tens of thousands of Jews were killed. Turnus Rufus plowed the site of the Bais Hamikdosh and its surroundings. Also, on this day, the Jews were expelled from Spain in 1492. We observe these and other tragedies which have occured throughout our history. For more info see link above.

It is important to fast from sunset tonight until Tuesday night nightfall. This is the only other major fast day besides Yom Kippur.

Aicha (Lamentations) is read in shul and we are obligated to keep our minds focused on the tragedies of this day, as we are all mourners.

Aicha (Lamentations) is read...

Lamentations (penned by the prophet Jeremiah)) is a progressive poetic mourning song for the loss of the first Temple built during the riegn of King Solomon.

Blessings...

"The first Bais Hamikdosh (Temple) and the second Bais Hamikdosh were both destroyed."

Fascinating how sacred Jewish history has intersected with the modern day Democratic party, a party which increasingly finds itself on the same side as those seeking to destroy Israel.

To quote someone I heard on the radio about three months ago:

America's Bible Belt is fast becoming Israel's safety belt.

The First Temple was destroyed by Nebuchadnetzer, the king of Bavel, in 423 B.C.E. The Second Temple was destroyed by the Romans in 69 C.E.

This is off topic, but...

The followers of the pedophile false prophet can not stand truthful examination.

Now a query. From the Hebrew of the old testament The word which is translated as curse can also be translated as oath. I understand that it comes from a 3 Hebrew letter word consisting of aleph lamed hay. curse, aleph lamed hay, pronounced and spelled in English as allah. Any basis to this. If so it seems we may have been sent a message through time about our present reality.

From a popular biblical dictionary:

alah pronunciation... aw-law
To adjure (in a bad way)imprecate; also transliterated curse, exccration, oath, swear

It is a verb form... a basic root -- not a noun or a name

I do not see any prophetic parallels, or any signals or signs in the coincidental spelling

Hope this helps...

"the darkest day in Jewish history"

Do you mean good Friday, the day Christ was crucified?

Now, now. You're potentially, unintentionally perhaps, giving credence to the old canard that anti-semitism has as its tap root Christianity. No offense intended.
