Dean Welcomed Like Rock Star by Dems (Rock the Vote)

BOSTON - Howard Dean (news - web sites) isn't running for president anymore, but you'd never know it from the reception he got Sunday night.

Speaking to a crowd of young voters at a party sponsored by Rock the Vote and Democratic Gain, Dean was welcomed like a rock star. He could barely get through the crowd. Once he reached the stage, with his shirt sleeves characteristically rolled up above the elbows, he was greeted with chants of "Dean, Dean, Dean" echoing back to his rallies this past winter, when the former Vermont governor was running for the Democratic nomination.

"We're all working for John Kerry (news - web sites) and John Edwards (news - web sites) now, but I know how helpful you all were to me, and I appreciate it very very much," Dean told the crowd.

He also took time for a little Bush-bashing.

"We're about to take a collection up to buy a one-way bus ticket to Crawford, Texas, for George W. Bush," Dean said.

While he promised not to say anything negative about the president, he joked:

"I didn't see any press out there. So we're going to have a lot of fun."

Among celebrities spotted in the crowd was Amber Tamblyn. The 21-year-old star of the CBS drama "Joan of Arcadia" said she's hoping to be a role model for other young women.

"This will be my first voting in a presidential election," she said. "I'm hoping young women see the importance of voting."

But she was less impassioned about discussing her recent Emmy nomination for best lead actress in a drama.

"I don't think I'm going to win," she said. "I don't want to peak too early in my career. I don't want be an It girl."

On the other hand, Free, the evening's emcee and co-host of the BET video countdown show "106 & Park," admitted that she's only voted once in her life. "That's about to change because I saw Fahrenheit/911," referring to Michael Moore's blockbuster documentary.

"Did y'all see Fahrenheit 9/11?" she asked the crowd, drawing plenty of cheers. "After I saw that, I said 'I'm going to vote every single year.'"

Vermont Governor Howard Dean (news - web sites) speaks at the Democratic Gain & Rock the Vote jump off party at the Avalon nightclub in Boston July 25, 2004. A unified Democratic Party on Sunday readied an upbeat, positive coronation for White House hopeful John Kerry (news - web sites) on the eve of a national convention held amid unprecedented security -- but without threatened union disruptions. Kerry and party leaders promised speakers at the convention would limit their criticism of Bush and focus on showcasing Kerry's life story and the Democratic agenda for boosting the economy, rebuilding foreign alliances and protecting the country. Shut this NONSENSE down now. They are 501c3 tax cheats.

There can be no such thing as a "Democrats' Rock The Vote Party" as RTV is allegedly non-partisan (just more BS from the Viacommie-MTV crowd).

Even if they hold a "rock the vote" gathering at the GOP convention, they are REQUIRED by IRS TAX LAW to invite Republicans as well as Democrats (they cannot offer partisan support). They had a former candidate from this year's election at the event.

"his shirt sleeves rolled up above the elbows,"

Must have just come from delivering a calf. Nasty business.

Jerry Springer!?!?!?

It tells you something about the collective intelligence of the crowd that nobody felt like an idiot being at a political rally with JERRY SPRINGER as a speaker.

Un-frickin-believable.

I absolutely love Amber Tamblyn. I'd like to see her win the emmy for her work in Jone of Arcadia. I just hope that a political stake is driven through her heart if her reported leanings and her participation in a Dean rally is true.

Hey, Jerry Springer almost ran for national office as a Democrat and the party didn't do anything to disavow him.

Lyndon LaRouche = BAD DEMOCRAT, Jerry Springer and Al Sharpton = GOOD DEMOCRATS.

The Dem Convention will not draw any huge applause unless they bash Bush. By Wednesday the Dems will be in a Bush Bashing Frenzy and when it comes time for John Kerry to tell the world on Thursday night that he served in Vietnam for the 2 millionth time and how he will get France to like us, nobody will applaud him like they did the many left wing wacko's who were invited to speak all week.

Ah, to be young and dumb. I wonder how she will feel when she finally figures out how much she pays in taxes.

By the way, is it true that Dean sang a cover of the Who's "Won't Get Fooled Again" at the Rock the Vote rally?

YEEEEEAAAAAAHHHHH!

I thought that Amber Tamblyn, daughter of Russ, was an atheist (or at least agnostic) who does not believe in organized religion.

Maybe they can call it the Mary Jo Kopechne 35th Anniversary Memorial and treat it as "Wellstone Rally II".
