NETWORK ANCHORS EXPRESS DISAPPOINTMENT IN CONVENTION AIR TIME
Drudge Report ^ | 7/25/04 | Matt Drudge

Posted on 07/25/2004 6:22:57 PM PDT by wagglebee

Harvard's Joan Shorenstein Center was the scene Sunday for anchormen to lament the lack of network coverage for this week's convention.

The parties "have to think about how to reconstruct the conventions," said NBC Brokaw.

"They've been drained of all their vitality."

ABC Jennings claimed that "under the current circumstances, there isn't great reason for us to show up," for more than an hour or two a night.

But PBS Lehrer rebuked the big three, according to Monday's BOSTON GLOBE.

"I think that starting tomorrow, we're going to have four of the eight most important days we can have as a nation," said Lehrer, criticizing CBS's Dan Rather, ABC's Peter Jennings, and NBC's Tom Brokaw for not getting more air time. "I'm sorry. You guys are a hell of a lot more important than your bosses are willing to admit."

Addressing the challenges of covering politics in a politically polarized environment, CBS Rather stated that "fear has increased in every newsroom in America," and added that reporting on explosive issues can bring a torrent of e-mails and phone calls. That can lead to a situation, he said, in which journalists conclude that "when you run this story, you're asking for trouble with a capital 'T'. . . Why run it?"

When does the Dem convention begin, anybody know?

Does it matter?
I've heard sometime this year.

But if good TV made good government, Jennifer Anniston would be President

You consider that good TV?

Never saw the program, good TV is Babylon 5 Sheridan for President.

What did they expect? To pre-empt the soaps for their Kerry love-fest?

That would be great for us if they did. A lot of those women would vote for Bush out of spite. I remember when the Challenger blew up watching the women in the lounge at work fuming because their soap operas were being pre-empted. If they are that warped, they switch votes just because some pol disrupted their drug of choice.

I may be getting older, but I recall those photos as if they happened yesterday! Thanks for the memories, so to speak!

People don't watch the conventions because they're boring. Who wants to watch the Kum-Bye-Yah crowd sing "We Shall Overcome?" And CBS will dig up Walter Cronkite from the grave for his totally idiotic, once every four years commentary. The most interesting part of either convention will be President Bush's acceptance speech and for the red-blooded American males (who won't be watching the Democratic convention anyway) checking out the lovely Bush women. By the way, Kerry Edwards sounds like a great name for a gay guy.

LOL-- Never saw Friends either (or any "entertainment TV" in the last 15 years (though she was oscar material in Office Space) but she is what the leftmedia considers "good TV". If good politics made good TV, Alan Keyes would be broadcast prime-time.

The more things change the more they remain the same. Compare this to the anti-war protesters of today. Still the same fruitcakes.

I'll bet Jennifer would do a better job than Kerry.

Why run it? What a stupid thing to say.

Because you're supposed to be a unbiased journalist, damn it!

"they are a party out of control"

Right you are. One can only hope that Michael Moore is interviewed again, again and again...
