Inspirations of Lance

Cancer is a funny illness that comes in all shapes and sizes, sometimes better or worse. Sometimes a short fight, sometimes a long fight. The key word is fight. I must encourage you to always keep the faith. The faith in your doctors, the faith in the medicine, the faith in your family, and most importantly the faith in yourself. This, my friend, is absolutely the best thing you can do for yourself. Your strength gives so many others hope and inspiration, including myself. I returned to professional cycling because of people like you, cancer patients who want to live forever and fight like crazy. Thank you and hang in there.

If you doubt Armstrong's impact beyond cycling, take an hour and go read the guestbook at his website. The posts from cancer patients, their spouses, kids, parents, etc. are gut wrenching.

Does anyone know if Armstrong is a Republican?

It would be great if he showed up in NY at the convention.

Seems to have missed the most important one. Oh well. Congrats to Lance.

I think Armstrong is great, but his omission of "faith in God" is too bad.

Pretty glaring omission, isn't it?

Too bad.

CBS had a beautiful tribute to Armstrong and the race this morning. Hope it's rerun.

I was diagnosed as a terminal cancer patient at the age of 15. My family was devastated but I never really felt threatened because as a 15 year old you feel invincible (and, I never really felt "sick"). Thanks to some wonderful doctors at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, I am still kicking better than ever 22 years later. I realize I was one of the lucky ones, but I feel great pride in Lance's accomplishments not only as an American but as a cancer survivor. He has brought inspiration and hope to millions of young kids and adults inflicted with this horrible disease.

Faith in God and many prayers also helped, I will never forget that!

Yes, the Republicans surely shouldn't appear to be TOO pro-family.

Doubts are in order whether Lance is a Republican or not. For one, he's dating Cheryl Crow, which should be 'nuff said. I read on another post that Lance whined about the war possibly interferring with his cycling. Don't know if it's true or not and wish someone would post something conservative Lance said or did so that it would make his victory even more special.

Lance on the War in Iraq:

"...In my opinion it's not really the place of an athlete to take a position here. And I do think there should be a strong delineation from sports, war, diplomacy, and politics. I am getting asked this question repeatedly over here because a) I'm an American like the President, b) I'm a Texan like the President, and c) I am a friend of the President's. The war seems to be very unpopular here (lots and lots of protests) and it's normal that the press tries to get a quote regarding this. "What I will say, and have said many times, is that NOBODY wants a war. Not me. Not President Bush. Not Tony Blair. No one... but sometimes it may be unavoidable. I absolutely support the President and absolutely support our troops."

"Does anyone know if Armstrong is a Republican?"

He is an anti-war liberal.

Does he get injections of testosterone to replace the testosterone that would ordinarily be produced by the testicles that he lost to cancer or does he just do without?

A positive mental attitude helps to keep the body healthy. It may even prevent and/or cure cancer.

Thanks, Nit, I really enjoyed reading what Lance said in your post. Also heard that President Bush had called and congratulated him, so I'm sure it was well received.

Judging by your comments about Lance, I'd bet you've never exercised a day in your life--or at least not competitively.

You're probably one of those envious, out-of-shape pudges who think it's just luck when athletes like Armstrong do what they do.
