From post #21:

From TM'r WestCoastGal AKA CoCo

SOURCE:NBC

IMPORTANT:

Things to Look Out For: Be Observant:

Multiple sightings of the same suspicious person, vehicle or activity at the same location;

Individuals or activities that don't "fit" into the surrounding environment;

Individuals sitting in a parked vehicle for an extended period of time;

Individuals or several people sketching or taking notes, photographing or videotaping areas or buildings not normally associated with tourist activity;

Clothing out of place for the weather, such as someone wearing a heavy coat in hot weather;

Individuals or people carrying unusually heavy bags or backpacks;

Vehicles -- especially vans, U-Hauls or delivery trucks -- improperly parked or parked in locations not normally associated with deliveries;

Follow your instinct. If something doesn't look right, it might not be.

Addendum:
POSSIBLE SIGNS OF TERRORISM

Unusual videotaping or photography of buildings or other critical infrastructure.
Videotaping is one of the ways that terrorists gather information about a possible target. A major terrorist plot in Singapore was averted when videotapes of the buildings to be attacked, including embassies, were discovered.

Suspicious vehicles near significant buildings or in public places.
Terrorists use vehicles for many purposes, from surveillance to planting bombs (such as in Oklahoma City or Bali). Vehicles may be parked for an unusual length of time, sometimes in no-parking areas. Explosives can be heavy, so cars and vans may sit abnormally low on their suspensions. They may have expired registrations or have false or missing plates. There was one recorded incident where an attack was foiled because a vehicle had front and rear plates that did not match.

Suspicious accommodation needs.
The way terrorists use, rent and buy accommodation is often suspicious. A British example was a rented garage that was used as a bomb factory. A resident became suspicious and reported men coming and going wearing rubber gloves. This led to a number of arrests of terrorists who had already attacked Heathrow Airport.

Unusual purchases or possession of fertilizer or chemicals.
Fertilizer is a widely available product that has been used in many terrorist bombs. The Oklahoma City bombing killed 168 people. One of the clues in that case was a receipt for two tons of fertilizer.

A lifestyle that does not add up.
While planning an attack, terrorists may lead lives that appear unusual or suspicious. The 9/11 terrorists are classic examples – learning to fly but not wanting to learn how to land. The leader of that group also paid cash for many large purchases such as flight training, accommodation, vehicles and air tickets.

False or multiple identities.
Terrorists often use false or stolen documents, including passports and drivers’ licenses. They can also have several identities and may give conflicting details to those they come in contact with. One example was an alert bank employee who noticed a series of unusual transactions and identified an account that had been opened in a false name. They reported it to authorities, who uncovered links to a terrorist group.

Last Friday I went and bought Red Dawn and The Day After, as an attempt to underhandedly prepare my 11 year old.

In all fairness to Jim Robinson, he has been hit with copyright infringment lawsuits in the past, so he is rightly a little cautious about what gets posted on FR. I would not put the blame on Jim Robinson.

After all this thread has been through, we shouldn't have to be reminded that this is JR's sandbox, and if we don't like the rules we can go play somewhere else. With that said, in my opinion, "you know who" came here looking for trouble in the hopes of (a) getting the critical posts zapped; and (b) drawing hits to his website from those who want to see what all the fuss is about. Either way he wins, and he did, and I'm partially at fault for going toe to toe. I apologize to all, especially JR. We lost a lot of good stuff today. Unfortunately, if the pattern holds true, in a few weeks some newbies (or even some TN veterns), will post references to some report at that website and the whole cycle will start all over again with "you know who" right smack in the middle.

Lastly, in my opinion, nothing that I saw posted today was copyright protected or defamatory. Although I am by no means an expert on copyyright law, my opinion is based upon twenty years in the courtroom litigating complicated commercial cases, including cases involving libel, slander, defamation, civil RICO, and fraud. The so-called intelligence report in question was posted word for word here yesterday, and while I believe it was allowed under the "fair use doctrine," out of an abundance of caution the posters of the report had it removed at my suggestion.

Unfortunately, as Mr. Robinson can certainly attest, being right on the merits is not necessarily an effective shield against time consuming and expensive litigation in a society that allows just about any person to sue for any reason or no reason at all, with vitually no reprecussions when the suit is eventually tossed. As much as we hate to lose hundreds of posts because of this incident, Mr. Robinson did the right thing under the circumstances.

Now back to your regular programing.

One day they're gonna detonate something that'd best be left sealed.

Thank you so much for your summary. I returned home yesterday from my son's wedding and came here this morning to try and catch up. After reading a bit and seeing that some disruption had occurred, I gave up for a while.

I was very pleased to be able to read your summary and get some indication as to what was happening here and abroad. Now, if I can just keep up.... :)

I concur with your brief synopsis. I do not have as many years experience as you in law, but I do know there are countless cases filed each day that have no merit and will eventually be tossed out, but with great legal expense for the respondent/victim.

Back to the TM we go!!!

That's right, thecabal. I agree with you. And, unfortunately, axing lots of innocent posts was probably the most efficient and quickest way for JR to eliminate the problem posts. The same thing on a smaller scale happened over the weekend, some of my innoucuous posts were vanished. Maybe folks can repost the unrelated posts they feel are crucial.

Proprietary info does not belong here unless an organization posts it themselves; that is only fair business and legal practice. If we do otherwise -- even if other organizations choose to do that -- we will endanger the Robinsons and Free Republic.

I will be able to catch up this evening much quicker than I imagined! Oh well...
