Starwise, I've wondered about this "media" rush, for years now. With the Berger case, it was major blood jolt time for the US citizenry. I'll bet no one is giving anything much to the presses to report on as the investigation continues (and lawyers work to get their acts together); and so the media is taking advantage of the "jolt" time to keep their ratings up. This is why, I think, the Hacking case has gone big time.

On another note, however, something big had also gone down JUST before the media went hyper on the Chandra Levy case. I can see what it was in far distant corner of my mind, but for the life of me I can just snag it forward to consciousness. Yet.

Wasn't Clinton's impeachment going on at that time? I remember Condit was on some committee having to vote on it, unless my memory is totally Swiss cheese .. which it could be.

The Chandra feeding frenzy was ENDED by 9/11 IIRC. I don't remember what was hot in early summer, 2001, but maybe that time frame will help.

Obviously I remembered wrong. Chandra Levy was apparently in the spring/summer of 2002.

I was right before. The Levy/Condit story started in spring of 2001. Her body was finally located about a year later.

I remember thinking at the time that one reason the missing person story got so much coverage was because there wasn't a lot else going on (boy, I miss those times, don't you?). So I went and looked at some old articles and didn't really see any side references to other issues. Not much help I know.
