Stenholm to attend Plainview fiesta
U.S. Rep. Charlie Stenholm, D-Abilene, will be in Plainview on Sunday for Fiesta Campesina, a festival celebrating and honoring the hard work of laborers.
The fiesta will be from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Broadway Park on the south side of Plainview. The free event will have Mexican food, ice cream, traditional Latino music and polka dancing.
U.S. Reps. Silvestre Reyes, D-El Paso, and Ruben Hinojosa, D-Mercedes, will join Stenholm to speak about education, family values and rural needs.
The music group "Elida Reyna y su groupo Avante" and other local bands will provide entertainment.
Bub bye Charlie.
Stenholm is my congressman here in West Texas. I keep track of election years by noting when he is called "Charlie", instead of the "the honorable Charles".
Charlie is the whitest of white men- watching him pretend to enjoy Tejano music will be like watching Kerry pretend to love (c)rap.
His Republican challenger has my vote in the bag- and has since I moved back here in 1990.
I suspect that Stenholm will win because I believe G.W. Bush will run at least 10 points behind his 2000 totals in the state of TX. There will be more straight Democrat ticket voting in 2004 and more ticket splitters too to benefit Stenholm. But I am always on the pessimistic side.
