You think Lance will pass Basso again today?
It certainly looks like he's on pace. I'd put the over/under at the last time check (47.5km)...
Here's another one for your over/under: will Kloden pass Basso im the overall standings?
The OLN coverage puts them within a few seconds of each other right now. It looks like a certainty that Kloden will be second, but Ullrich will not catch Basso.
My money is on Lance to pass Basso in the stage and Kloden to pass Basso in the overall.
Thanx TXBluebell. OLN was restored to my Church of the Living Satan Cable Service a minute ago just in time for the last KMs, but I'm sticking with the velonews updates you linked us to b/c I think they're ahead of the OLN feed: this is their latest post:"5:30 p.m. - Ullrich is through the 48km mark at 1:00:11 - But in an awesome display of his mastery over the laws of space and time, Lance Armstrong actually finishes his time trial BEFORE he started it, and dedicates his stage win to Stephen Hawking " LOL!
I was wrong...Basso held off Lance. Not by much, though.
You might collect. From OLN:
17 H 43 - Ivan Basso 1km From Finish Ivan Basso has lost his grip on 2nd place overall. The CSC rider is almost within Armstrong's sights... both are now in the final kilometer of the stage.
17 H 42 - Armstrong First At Every Time Check The rider wear the yellow jersey has set the fastest times of the day at each of the four intermediate checks. At 18km he was 43" ahead of Ullrich, at 35km his lead was 46", at 40km 51", at 47.5km 54"... if he continues at this rate, the Texan will win the stage with roughly the same advantage over Ullrich as what he achieved at L'Alpe d'Huez, 1'01".
It could almost be believable! LOL!
Was the change from 2 min to 3 min start intervals an effort to keep lance from lapping Basso? They didn't do that at L'Alp D'Huez.
Armstrong finishes with a time of 1:06:49 - 1:01 better than Ullrich's time, who takes second.
17 H 47 - The Final Top Five
At the end of the 19th stage, the top five is:
1. ARMSTRONG (USA, USP) 55km in 1h06'49.280 (49.388km/h)
2. ULLRICH (GER, TMO) at 1'01"
3. KLÖDEN (GER, TMO) at 1'27"
4. LANDIS (USA, USP) at 2'25"
5. JULICH (USA, CSC) at 2'48"
17 H 45 - Armstrong Wins Again!
Lance Armstrong has won the 55km time trial. He raced the 19th stage at an average speed of 49.49km/h. The winning time was 1h06'49.280. This is the fifth solo stage win for Armstrong in the 91st edition of the Tour de France!
It was because of the far longer distance covered by this time trial, as far as I know.
17 H 48 - Basso 6th At 2'50"
Ivan Basso has lost his 2nd place in the general classification. The Italian finished the 19th stage 2'50" behind Armstrong and 1'23" behind Andreas Kloden. Basso is now 3rd overall while the German champion, Kloden, moves up to 2nd place.
So Lance came within 10" of passing him. If it had been 2 minute splits, he would have.
I expected he'd do worse in this ITT, based on past performance. Good effort, but not enough...
