Have You Filled Out YOur FreeRepublic Profile Yet?

Oops, I detect a loophole! How about thought fragments? I've seen a few of those posted as whole threads, too. :-)

I am not a newbie by any stretch of the imagination, but I *still* don't understand the whole "vanity" thing. It says above that "Your comment/vanity article will be pulled or moved to General Interest." Does that mean that if you post a vanity in say, "Breaking News" section or "Education" that it will be moved to "General Interest" because that's where it should be in the first place?
Then it says that vanities "should be limited to the mission of Free Republic." So, that makes me think that I shouldn't come to FR looking for help with my son's programming questions. But, then it says this: "General interest (Chat) Is for discussions of news and interest topics unrelated to the news forum. We will move articles unrelated to the news forum here. " Well, isn't that a description of something that is outside of the "mission of Free Republic"?
This has always driven me crazy. The above statement seems to say NO VANITIES and PUT YOUR VANITIES HERE at the same time. I can't tell how you scared I get (hee hee) when I want to post a vanity. I'm never sure if it's OK to do so. One time I made the mistake of asking what had happened to "Freeper So and So" and I got raked over the coals. Well, asking what happened to someone seems to me to fall into the category of "interest topics unrelated to the news forum."
I'm SOOOO confused!!!!
Also, taglines are tax deductible.
Bump and a welcome to new members :-)
What exactly does it mean when people post "ping" or "bump" on threads? I've been a member for a long time but have never really understood that.
Thanks.
A nice addition to FR would be FRNews. Many FReepers break in here with first hand reporting, expertise on current issues and events and breaking news that acts as feed for several traditional and NetNews outlets.
It would be nice to see FR return the favor to all those main media news outlets that do not permit FR to post content from their sites.
I imagine Jim and company have their hands full. But if you ever get it going, here is a slogan for you.
Free Republic
With thousands of citizen reporters around the globe
Get it fast, get it first at FRNews
Thank you.
Oh, and thanks for letting me have a little fun with TheCole-meister before he went bye-bye. Now, do you know what a "very strict Reagan Republican" is? He never answered me. I hate it when that happens. :-)

AM, thank you sooo much for posting this. I cannot believe how many people are posting duplicate threads lately. And it is even worse when the thread already is right there in Breaking News and has been there for hours or even a full day. How much effort does it take to do a search before posting a new thread?
And another thing for the posters. There is no reason to type the thread title in all caps. You do not have to yell.
Here is a tip for HTML challenged FReepers.
When posting articles you must format to HTML. A simple way to do this is to cut and paste your article into a standard reply window from any thread. Then choose "spell" option, "apply corrections" and then "Preview."
The Preview will be HTML formatted. Cut and paste the preview into the body of article section of your posting, add your comments and your done.
One, for your first post, I dont think you can do any better than to post a vanity. In that spirit, Id like to ask everybody for sunburn remedies.
Number two, be sure to fill out your Freeper profile and include pertinent information. Things like, your real name, phone number, address, map to your house, social security number, internet password, times youre home and when youre not, where you work, just the basics so others can get to know you.
Hope thats helpful.

Whats the rule (is there a rule) on folks who don't post anything except SPAM to promote their own site ? I can understand making comments and maybe a link embedded but just graphics advertising their site and a link to their site on a whole bunch of threads.........??
Stay safe !
How do we search by date?
I want to find threads that were posted, August 31, 2001.
Thanks.
It would be nice if in the future this also mentioned the intention of the state groups, that they are limited to local and regional issues, and not intended for the "REALLY important story" of national interest that an idiot poster wants to force everyone to find in their local state's news.
