WHO: People dissatisfied with Cheney's & Jones' political policies.Riverside Area Peace & Justice Action (RAPJA) has called for a "massive rally and protest" of Vice President Dick Cheney's visit to Riverside, CA to attend a fund-raiser for Republican Bill Jones. RAPJA is part of a "Coalition of the Sane" which decries the Bush/Cheney policies of "lies, wars, and corporate ties" that have so damaged the United States. The rally will be held at the corner of Orange and Mission Inn Ave and in front of the Riverside City Library (3581 Mission Inn Ave).
RAPJA is expecting a large and noisy demonstration as people from Santa Barbara to San Diego (according to RPD Detective Frank Patino) plan to attend. "We could easily see over one thousand people - more than attended the October 15th rally for Bush," says RAPJA member Steve Schuh. Groups as diverse as the Democrats of Greater Riverside, Green Party, Latinos Against War, Fellowship Of Reconciliation, Peace and Freedom Party, RAPJA, National Alliance for Human Rights, Women in Black, Code Pink, A.N.S.W.E.R.-LA, and Death Penalty Focus are helping to plan the event.
The rally will feature a number of speakers including: well-known Riverside writer Jean Denny; Steven Sterns, Democrat of Riverside; Riverside poet Phil Courtney; Jeremiah Akin speaking about Bill Jones and electronic voting; and others to be announced. The theme of the speakers will focus on Bill Jones' and Dick Cheney's record on California, U.S., and international issues.
In addition, many of the participating organizations will have tables with literature, campaign materials, buttons, and bumper stickers.
