What is interesting is that reports are to be posted by 10:00 AM Mountain time each morning. Today as of 10:15 AM there is no post of what happened yesterday or what is likely to happen today.
From the Cal ISO Oasis Website for 7/23, both Diablo Canyon and the Delta Energy Center are listed as unplanned outages, leaving a hole in Norhern California power generation. The Reliant Ormand Beach 775 MW plant has an unplanned outage.

Heat and humidity down here in So Cal, but supposed to rise the next few days. The fact that it is the weekend could ease things.

Path 30 is experiencing high CW unscheduled flow. Path Operator requests Fourth Level (Step 9) schedule curtailments per the WECC USF Procedure.
The spot price of electricity has jumped over $10/MWH since I first posted.
The non-operating generation report was revised as of 11:19 AM this morning (from its earlier 7 AM values)

I home Cal ISO will be earning its keep today.
We had an unscheduled outage here at my house today - about 3 hours - don't know the cause.
I just fired up my electric-start 5KW Honda generator and went on about my business. Even had the A/C on. (I did open the breaker on the hot water heater)
The beer is still cold. That's the main thing.

On page 3 you will see three bar graphs which show the amount of power available under various assumptions matched agains loads under various assumptions. Could get bad!
Page 13 of 15 is more interesting. The key Summer Operational Risks are......
(1)Potential limitations on generating unit run-time due to environmental constraints
Limited Resources + Higher Annual Loads = Extended Usage of Generators w/Limited hours.
(2) Potential additional retired or mothballed generating units
(3)Limited Southern California generation and import capacity

It will eventually be posted. When it is, I have a feeling it will make for some interesting reading. Oh, the path 30 Unscheduled Flow thing has been called off.

The California ISO has a habit of covering up bad news. In the past they have downplayed the severity of many system power problems. In this particular case they were saying that every thing was fine and normal operations were occuring, while other parts of their operations were struggling and they PR people were apealing for help.
I don't think that they can be trusted. I think that if something doesn't soon change, they will be responsible for a West Coast Blackout from Arizona to Alberta Canada.
Looks like they are rather concerned about what will happen on Monday.
Next go to post and click on the June Summer Presentation by the Cal ISO. Note that on slide 5 of the presentation that the base forecast for the highest load this summer is about 44,422 MW. That means they are expecting that Monday loadws will be about 1,830 MW more than what they were projecting in June of this year. They clearly have no idea what the loads could be in August.
Next look at slide 3 of the June presentation by the Cal ISO. Now add 1,830 MW to the Base Case situation and not that there will not be enough power to supply the loads and maintain appropriate reserves under most resource situations.
I sure hope Diablo Canyon gets brought back on-line this weekend! I sure hope that LADWP stops screwing with the Pacific DC Intertie this weekend! I sure hope that APS gets its transformers borrowed from the PNW installed this weekend installed so they can support California import needs to serve load!
