To a very great extent, America owes its success, virtue, and foundation, to a "Bible Thumper" named John Knox. The general model of American government was inspired by that of the governing organization of the Presbyterian Church. (Moreover, most of the Patriots that fought for America in Pennsylvania, Virginia, and the Carolinas, were Presbyterians).

Like the man said, "The common man eloped with history and ran off to the US of America. Mr. Jefferson and his friends re wrote the book on politics. Rockefeller, Carnegie and Ford took it from there."
That about covers the differences between the US and Europe.
